We understand that the wall is to support an area around a hlofr jrgncion power pole and the maximum wall height will be aboutjyj jfeet. The retaining wall as designed should be satisfactory. However, we would suggest that either the soil used for backfill be essentially free draining (select granular sandy backfill) or the design value used fpr £he equivalent fluid pressure should be increased to about £3 psf/ft from the 30 psf/ft used in design and then the sandy ori-slte soils may be used for backfill. A tie back system was installed in accordance with approved plans and specifications and met all of the required testing criteria. The pole site is now ready for the cribwall to be constructed along Palomar Airport Road. The cribwall location has been approved by SDG&E as shown on Foundation Modification Drawing TX-3685, Revision 4, and will become an intricate part of the foundation protection for the steel pole structure.
