The purpose of this letter is to address the difference between the existing structural framing
discovered at the site, and the existing structural framing shown on our structural drawings. Our scope
was to analyze the existing roof framing conditions for the replacement of two new rooftop units. The
information that we were originally provided showed existing 11 7/8" SS1 32MK joists at 16" o.c., and this
is what we show in Drawing S1.0 issued March 31, 2001. The true field conditions, verified by
Mr. John Remington of Cedar Enterprises, are existing 18" deep joists at 32" o.c. The percentage
increase In moment on these joists caused by the replacement of these two new rooftop units is
negligible, and therefore, we see no problem in the replacement of the rooftop units. All other aspects of
our original Drawing S1.0, other than size and spacing of existing joists, hold true.
Furthermore, the architectural drawings provided by Shremshock make reference to joist spacing at
16" o.c., specifically at Detail D/A10.2. This detail calls for the attachment of metal stud slip track to
structure with two 0.205" DIA. PAF, or two #12 screws at 16" o.c. This attachment is sufficient at 32" o.c.
in lieu of 16" o.c.

Please make all corrections on the original tracings, as requested in the correction list.
Submit three sets of plans for commercial/industrial projects (two sets of plans for
residential projects). For expeditious processing, corrected sets can be submitted
in one of two ways:
1. Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA 92008, (760)
602-2700. The City will route the plans to EsGil Corporation and the Carlsbad
Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
2. Bring one corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to EsGil Corporation,
9320 Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858) 560-1468.
Deliver all remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department for routing to their Planning, Engineering and Fire
Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil Corporation only will not be
reviewed by the City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by
EsGil Corporation is complete.
8. Please revise the LTG-1C part 2of 4 to show the wattage from the LTG-5C form
for the track lighting. The part 2 of 4 form does not show the wattage from
the LTG-5C form and the LTG-4C incorrectly shows the floor area to be
4308sf and not 3813. Please revise all forms to be correct and consistent
with the plans.
11. Show that accessible lavatories comply with the following, per Sections 1115B.4.3:
a) When lavatories are adjacent to a side wall or partition, there shall be a
minimum of 18" to the center line of the fixture to the wall. The plans still
incorrectly show the center line of the lavatory to be 15", please
correct.
12. Show that grab bars comply with the following, per Section 1115B.8:
a) They shall be securely attached 33" above the floor, and parallel.
NOTE: Where a tank-type toilet is used which obstructs placement of the rear grab
bar at 33", the rear grab bar only may be installed as high as 36". The grab
bars are still incorrectly shown at 33" to 36" this is not permitted.
Please correct the plans.
To speed up the review process, note on this list (or a copy) where each
correction item has been addressed, i.e., plan sheet, note or detail number,
calculation page, etc.
Please indicate here if any changes have been made to the plans that are not a

FOREWORD (PLEASE READ):
This plan review is limited to the technical requirements contained in the International Building
Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, Uniform Mechanical Code, National Electrical Code and state
laws regulating energy conservation, noise attenuation and access for the disabled. This plan
review is based on regulations enforced by the Building Department. You may have other
corrections based on laws and ordinances enforced by the Planning Department, Engineering
Department, Fire Department or other departments. Clearance from those departments may be
required prior to the issuance of a building permit.
Code sections cited are based on the 2010 CBC, which adopts the 2009 IBC.
The following items listed need clarification, modification or change. All items must be satisfied
before the plans will be in conformance with the cited codes and regulations. Per Sec. 105.4 of
the 2009 International Building Code, the approval of the plans does not permit the violation of
any state, county or city law.
To speed up the recheck process, please note on this list (or a copy) where each
correction item has been addressed, i.e.. plan sheet number, specification section, etc.
Be sure to enclose the marked up list when you submit the revised plans.

Please make all corrections on the original tracings, as requested in the correction
list. Submit three sets of plans for commercial/industrial projects (two sets of plans
for residential projects). For expeditious processing, corrected sets can be
submitted in one of two ways:
1. Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA 92008, (760)
602-2700. The City will route the plans to EsGil Corporation and the Carlsbad
Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
2. Bring one corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to EsGil Corporation,
9320 Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858) 560-1468.
Deliver all remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department for routing to their Planning, Engineering and Fire
Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil Corporation only will not be
reviewed by the City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by
EsGil Corporation is complete.
1. Please provide a statement on the Title Sheet of the plans to show compliance
with the current Codes. The following are the correct current Codes:
a) The 2010 edition of the California Building Code (CBC) adopts the 2009
International Building Code (IBC) and the 2010 California Amendments.
b) The 2010 edition of the California Electrical Code (CEC) adopts the 2005
National Electrical Code (NEC) and the 2008 California Amendments.
c) The 2010 edition of the California Mechanical Code (CMC) adopts the
2006 Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) and the 2009 California
Amendments.
d) The 2010 edition of the California Plumbing Code (CPC) adopts the 2006
Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and the 2009 California Amendments.
e) The 2010 edition of the California Fire Code (CFC) adopts the 2009
Uniform Fire Code (UFC) and the 2007 California Amendments.
f) The 2008 edition of the California Energy Efficiency Standards.
2. Please provide plans and calculations signed by the California State licensed
engineer or architect for the structural support of the 1000# rooftop air handler
unit. Include all calculations and finding on the plans. Please include the
California license number, seal, date of license expiration and date plans are
signed. Business and Professions Code.
3. Please clearly identify the means of egress to the required second exit. Please
revise the plans to show the means of egress doors to readily distinguishable as
egress doors and shall not be concealed behind curtains, drapes, decorations or
similar materials. Section 1008.1.

4. Please revise the plans to show the exit sign to the required second exit to
clearly indicate the direction of egress travel. Section 1011.1.
5. Provide automatic shut-off controls for lighting as per Title 24, Part 6, Section
6. Please complete the LTG-1-C part 3 of 4 mandatory automatic controls portion
of the LTG-1-C forms.
7. Please have the principle designer check the appropriate box(s) and complete
the Statement of Compliance System Acceptance section of the LTG-1-C part 4
of 4 documents.
8. Please revise the LTG-1 C part 2 of 4 to show the wattage from the LTG-5C form
for the track lighting.
9. Provide complete plumbing plans, including:
a) Provide gas line plans and calculations, showing pipe lengths and total
gas demands to the meter. UPC Section 1217.0
1 0. Provide the following information concerning the water heater:
• Show that water heater is adequately braced to resist seismic forces. Provide
two straps. One strap at top 1/3 of the tank and one strap at bottom 1/3 of
the tank. UPC 508.2
11. Show that accessible lavatories comply with the following, per Sections 1115B.4.3:
a) When lavatories are adjacent to a side wall or partition, there shall be a
minimum of 18" to the center line of the fixture to the wall.
12. Show that grab bars comply with the following, per Section 1115B.8:
b) They shall be securely attached 33" above the floor, and parallel.
NOTE: Where a tank-type toilet is used which obstructs placement of the rear grab
bar at 33", the rear grab bar only may be installed as high as 36".
13. Per Section 1115B.8, show on the plans <40" height for:
b) The operable parts of at least one:
i) Paper towel dispenser.
ii) Sanitary napkin dispenser.
iii) Waste paper disposal.
iv) Other similar dispensing and/or disposal fixtures.
c) The bottom edge of mirrors.
