3 Please provide notes on the plans to show the suspended ceilings in Seismic Design
Catogorios D, E & F comply with ASCE 7 05 Section 13 5 6 2 1 as follows
a) All ceilings shall use a Heavy Duty T-bar grid system
b) The width of the penmotor supporting closure angle shall be not less than 2
c) In each orthogonal horizontal direction, one end of the ceiling grid shall be
attached to the closure angle
d) The other end in each horizontal direction shall have a %" clearance from the wall
and shall rest upon and be free to slide on a closure angle or a listed assembly
e) Ceiling areas over 1 ,000 ft 2 must have horizontal restraint wires (typically restraint
would consist of four 12 gauge wires splayed 90° to each other and sloped 45° to
the horizontal, spaced 12" o c )
f) Ceiling areas over 2500 ft 2 must have seismic separation joints or full height
partitions Show on the reflective ceiling plans the location of the seismic
separation joints.
g) Ceilings without rigid bracing must have 2" oversize trim rings for sprinklers and
other ceiling penetrations

PENETRATIONS ON COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS

A Maintain roof integrity.
B Prevent hazardous condition to firemen who must fight fire on the roof
C Provide an installation that is aesthetically sensitive to the building and the
adjoining properties
1 All equipment shall be concealed from view and the design* shall meet the
approval of the Planning Department
2 All equipment shall be specifically designed and approved for exterior use and
shall be approved by the City of Carlsbad Building Department
3. All roof mounted equipment shall be on a platform which shall be an integral
part of the roof-flashed and waterproofed. When a screen is approved, it shall
have as few roof connections as possible and be structurally adequate
4 All electrical, plumbing, mechanical duct work and related piping shall be inside
the building and not on the roof All connections related to equipment shall be
made in the same roof opening on the platform or have the prior approval from
the building official
5 Sewer vents shall be-brought to one mam vent below the roof and have one
penetration where restrooms or other plumbing fixtures are back to back or in
the general proximity
Air exhaust fans and other equipment shall be within the building and use the
