The industrial washer corrected total maximum natural gas input during test was determined to be 476,600 Btu per hour. The gas consumptions did not exceed the equipment manufacturer's specified total maximum input ratings. Satisfactory test results were observed in accordance with section 8.1 of the National Fuel Gas Code. ~urner Operating Characteristics: All main burners ignited within 4 seconds from the time gas was admitted to the burners. Flame patterns were normal with no lifting or blowing. There was no flash back or undue noise upon ignition or extinction • 7 • • • Issued: January 27, 1997 I.A.S. Report No. P-FT-34-96 Satisfactory test results were observed in accordance with National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 86, section 4-10 Ignition of Main Burners. Pilot Operating Characteristics: The main burner is ignited by a flow of natural gas through a supervised piloted gas ignition system. This ignition source must be proven by the pilot scanner before the main burner gas supply valve will open. The automatic spark ignition system ignited the pilot burner within four (4) seconds after the time gas was admitted to the pilot burner. Pilot flames did not flash back. The ignition flames were cycled ON and OFF arid reduced to a point where the UV scanner would cause the ignition system to lockout. There was no undue noise upon pilot extinction. Satisfactory test results were observed in accordance with NFPA section 4-10 Ignition of Main Burners. Ignition Evaluation: Using the pilot adjusting valve, the pilot burner flame was reduced to a point where the flame control module would just allow the main gas valve to open. After the preset, purge cycle was complete, the pilot and main burner ignited within 4.0 seconds from the time gas was admitted to the burners. Satisfactory main burner ignition was observed. The gas to the pilot burner was reduced to provide insufficient pilot burner flames and an ignition sequence was started. The flame control module provided spark ignition for 10 seconds and shut off the gas supply within 4 seconds. No flame was registered by the UV scanner and a flame failure lock out occurred. The flame control module had to be manually reset. Satisfactory test results were obtained per section 8. 4 of the National Fuel Gas Code and NFPA 86·, section 4-10 Ignition of Main Burners • 8 • • • Issued: January 27, 1997 I.A.S. Report No. P-FT-34-96 Combustion Analysis: After the burner(s) had been in operation for at least 5 minutes a sample of the combustion products was analyzed from the exhaust stack with the following results: 1st Stage Washer Cure Oven Primary Air Temp.: 85 498 2.4 36 85 375 2.13 39 Secondary Air Temp.: CO2 : CO: PPM Satisfactory test results were obtained. Failure Effect Mode Analysis: a) b) c) d) e) f). The high temperature setting on the temperature control was lowered to simulate a high temperature condition. A complete main burner shut down was experienced within 4 seconds. The temperature control probe and high temperature limit thermocouple wire were disconnected to simulate a loss of signal. The temperature control indicated a "run away" or high temperature condition. A compiete main burner shut down was experienced within 4 seconds. With the combustion compartment operating at 400 degrees F the UV flame sensor was rendered inoperative to simulate loss of flame. A complete main burner shut down was experienced within 4 seconds. The ignition sequence was initiated with the UV flame scanner rendered inoperative. After 10 seconds of ignition trial the ignition system locked out until the ignition control would allow the system to be manually reset. The air pressure switches providing proof of combustion air blower operation were rendered inoperative to simulate loss of air flow. The tests were repeated on the exhaust and recircu- lation blowers of the ovens. A complete main burner shut down was experienced within 4 seconds. Operation of the high and low supplemental gas pressure switches was simulated at the control. A main and pilot burner shut down was experienced. Manual intervention was required to restart the unit. , 9 1, ., I ••• • Iss~ed: January 27, 1997 I.A.S. Report No. P-FT-34-96 Simulation of any of the above tests resulted in the shutoff of the main burners by closing the main gas. shutoff valves. In the event of a flame outage failure, the unit will not try to relight before ignition system lockout occurs. Any flame failure will require completion of the purge cycle prior to re-ignition. The burner systems require manual intervention to manually open the safety shutoff valves to restart the burners after flame failure. A system failure will be indicated oh the control panel. Satisfactory test results were obtained per section 8-3 of the National fuel Gas Code. Satisfactory compliance to NFPA section 4- 6 .1 · Combustion air Safety Device was noted. Satisfactory test results were obtained in accordance with NFPA section 4, Safety Equipment and Application.
