I OVERVIEW
This report addresses high-piled combustible storage copditions proposed for a warehouse in an existing
building. Daryl K. James & Associates, Inc. will demonstrate, through code references that the proposed
storage arrays, construction, egress and fire protection system will be in full compliance with the 200 I
editions of the California Building Co9e and California Fire Code as they relate to the described use and
occupancy. This fire protection plan presented to you is complete and provides an.adequate level of fire
and life safety to the occupants of the ·building.

VI CODE ANALYSIS/TECHNICAL REFERENCES
The purpoiie of the code analysis is to provide the Penton Overseas design team with technical
information ang references applicable to both the design and maintenance of miscellaneous and high-
piled combustible storage conditions. The following applicable codes and standards have been used for
this evaluation: ·

Special Hazards
High-piled storage conditions present a special hazard as indicated in CBC Section 311.8. There are no
additional special hazardous conditions such as; the storage, use and handling of flammable or
combustible liquids, or open flame. (Technical Reference 1)
VIII_ COMMODITY CLASSIFICATION
Proposed Storage Array -Books, DVDs, CDs, Class 1-V & Group A Unexpanded Plastic in Cartons
The storage of Group A Unexpanded Plastics in cartons will be stored on pallets, within the staging area,
up to 12 feet in he(ght.
Commodity in Cardboard Boxes
Books:
DVDs&CDs
Mixed Commodities
Class III
Group A Plastics
Weight of Group A unexpanded plastic materials, on ap.y given pallet, will be limited to less than 14%
changing the classification to .Class N in accordance with CFC Section 8101.4.3 and Table 8101 .4-A.
Plastic material is .dispersed throughout pallet loads in all cases. There is no significant plastic
concentration on any pallet given that the main commodity is books. When disks or tapes are part of the
package, the weight ratio to paper or cardboard is very disproportionate, therefore the low plastic content
percentage.
> First pallet weighed 415 lbs with 31 lbs of plastic materials; plastic ?ontents ranked at 7%
)>-&econd pallets weighted ns lbs with 27.5 lbs ofplastic materials; plastics contents ranked at 3%
> Third and last pallets weighted l,379 lbs with 14 lbs of plastic materials; plastic contents ranked at 1%
