1. Only the storage rack catwalk system is included in this plan review.
2. Plans include notes regarding Titre 24 compliance. Sheet Tl
3. Hazardous material note included on sheet Tl
4. Path of travel of info is provided on sheet Al
5. Fire department approval shall be obtained.
6. The racks shall be spaced a minimum of 6" cleat from building columns/w~lls as shown on sheet SH3A.
7. The catwalk design live load shall be posted as noted on sheet SCE 1 of 1, note 8.
8. Forklifts will not be used in the vicinity of the proposed shelving catwafk as all roads are stacked by hand. However,
since the axial stress on the columns is:17% on page 5, the 50% axial load case of section 2222.5 is satisfactory.
9. The stair analysis is provided in the calculations herein. The details have been included in the resubmittal package.
10. The floor system is the Rapid Rack 9" plank grating spanning cross aisle as shown on sheets SCES 1 of 1 and SH3A.
11. The angle posts are connected with the tie plare; as shown on sheet SCE 1 of 1. These plates simply keep the
columns from deforming with respect to one another. The calculations show the load· to the double "L" post calling it a
"T" post, but the columns are designed to work individually as an "L" shape, thus the tie plates are not transferring any
loads.

which generates pressure or byproducts which could qmse injury,
illness or harm.to humans, domestic animals, livestock or wildlife.
HAZARDOUS FIRE AREA is land which is covered with
grass, grain brush or forest, whether privately or publicly owned,
which is so situated or is of such inaccessible location that a fire
originating upon such land would present an abnormally difficult
job of suppression or would result in great and unusual damage
through fire or resulting erosion. Such areas are designated by the
chief on a map maintained in the office of the chief.
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS are those chemicals or sub-
stances which are physical hazards or health hazru:ds as defined
and classified in Article 80 whether the materials are irt usable or
waste condition.
HAZARDOUS PRODUCTION MATERIAL (HPM) is a
solid, liquid or gas associated with semiconductor manufacturing

ered land exclusive of small individual lots or parcels of land lo-
cated out;ide of a brush-, forest-or grass-covered area.
HEALTH HAZARD is a classification of a chemical for which
there is statistically significant evidence based on at least one
stt!dy conducted in accordance with established scientific prin-
ciples that acute or chronic health effects could occur in exposed
persons. Health hazards include chemicals which are carcinogens,
.toxic or highly toxic materials, reproductive toxins, irritants, cor-
rosives, sensitizers, hepatotoxins, nephrotoxins, neurotoxins,

which can be caused to detonate by means of a No. 8 test blasting
cap when unconfined.
HIGHLY 10XIC MATERIAL is a IJl,aterial which produces a
lethal dose or lethal concentration which falls within any of the
following categories:
1. A cbemical that has a median lethal dose (LD50) of 50 milli-
grams or less per kilogram of body weight when administered
orally to albino rats weighing between 200 and 300 grams each.
2. A chemical that has a median lethal dose (LD50) of 200 mil-
ligrams or less per kilogram of body weight when administered by
continuous contact for 24 hours, or less if death occurs within 24
hours, with the bare skin of albino rabbits weighing between 2 and
3 kilograms each.
3. A chemical that has a median lethal concentration (LC50) in
air of 200 parts per million by volume or less of gas or vapor, or 2
milligrams per li~er or less of mist, fume or dust, when adminis-
tered by continuous inhalation for one hour, or less if death occurs
within one hour, to albino rats weighing between 200 and 300
grams each.
Mixtures of these materials with ordinary materials, such as wa-
ter, might not warrant classification as highly toxic. While this
system is basically simple in application, any hazard evaluation
which is required for the precise categorization of this type of ma-
terial shall be performed by experienced, technically competent
persons.
HIGHLY VOLATILE LIQUID is a liquid with a boiling point

7-4.2.2.l.9t Where clearance from ceiling to top of storage is less
than 4½ ft (1.37 m), the sprinkler operating area indicated in
curves E, F, G, andH in Figures 7-4.2.2.1.1 (a;) through (e) sh;:tll be
permitted to be reduced as indicated in Figure 7-4.2.2.1.9 but shall
not be rec:luced to less than 2000 ft2 (185.8 m2). (See 7-4.2.2.1.10.)
No Reduce density 40% from that of
minimum in-rack sprinklers
7-4.2.2.1.10 Where clearance from ceiling to top of Class I or
Class II encapsulated storage is I½ ft to 3 ft (0.46 m to 0.91 m),
the sprinkler operating area indicated in curve F only of Figure
7-4.2.2.1.1 (e) shall be permitted to be reduced by 50 percent but
shall not be reduced to less than 2000 ft2 (186 m2).
7-4.2,2,1.ll Where solid, flat-bottom, combustible paLlets are
used with storage height up to and including 25 ft (7.6 m), the
densities that are indicated in the design curves shown in Fig-
ures 7-4.2.2.1.1 (a) through (g), based on conventional pallets,
shall be increased 20 percent for the given area. The percent-
age shall be applied to the density determined in accordance
with Figure 7-4.2.2.1.3. The increase in density shall not apply
where in-rack sprinklers are installed.
7-4.2.2,2* Ceiling Sprinkler Water Demand -Double-and
Single-Row Racks.
7-4.2:2.2,l For Class I, Class II, Class III, or Class IV com-
modities, encapsulated or nonencapsulated in single-or dou-
ble-row racks, ceiling sprinkler water demand in terms of
density (gpm/ft2) (mm/min) and area of sprinkler opera-
tion [ft2 (m2) of ceiling or roof] shall be selected from the
curves in Figures 7-4.2.2.l.l-1.6(a) through (g) as directed by
Table 7-4.2.1.5. The curves in Figures 7-4.2.2.1.1 (a) through
(g) also shall apply to portable racks arranged in the same
manner as single-, double, or multiple-row racks. The design
shall be sufficient to satisfy a single point on the appropriate
curve related to the storage configuration and commodity
class. It shall not be required to meet all points on the
selected curve. Figure 7-4.2.2.1.3 shall be used to adjust the
density for storage height unless otherwise specified.
7-4.2.2,2.2*t, Design curves for single-and double-row racks
shall be selected to correspond to aisle width. For aisle widths
between 4ft (1.2 m1 and 8 ft (2.4 m), a direct linear interpolation
between curves shall be made. The density given for 8-ft (2.4-m)
wide aisles shall be applied to aisles wider than 8 ft (2.4 m). The
density given for 4-ft (1.2-m) wide aisles shall be applied to aisles
narrower than 4 ft (1.2 m) down to 3½ ft (1.07 m). Where aisles
are narrower than 3½ ft (1.07 m), racks shall be considered to
:J:>e multiple-row racks.
