Proposed Protection for New Storage Array within Existing H-3/1-1-7 Occupancy
To Whom It May Concern
On behalf of Air Products we are proposing fire sprinkler protection upgrades to an existing H-
31H-70ccupancy located within Air Products at 1969 Palomar Oaks Way, Room 326
[Attachment #1] This letter will also serve as an addendum to the previously prepared report by
Klausbruckner & Associates Inc dated June 20, 2011
The existing room currently serves as floor storage of empty containers These containers,
previously filled with Flammable Liquids lB and IC, though considered empty, are not free of
vapors Per CFC 3404.3'.3.4, the storage of empty tanks and containers previously used for the
storage offlammable or combustible liquids unless free from explosive vapors shall be stored
as required for filled containers and portable tanks Portable tanks and containers when
emptied, shallhavethè covers orplus immediately replaced in openings. [Attachment 92]
Therefore based on CFC 3404.3.3.4, the storage of empty containers within the new proposed
rack and floor storage array will require the following
1 Rack Storage - MetahContainers RECEIVED
Ceiling Height 20'
RAAV 1 1? ',ri
V Maximum Storage Height: 16 LVI.)
- CITY OF CARLSBAD
Type of Racking Single Row Racks BUILDING DIVISION
Container Size 5 gallons
Container type Metal, Non Relieving Style Assumed Relieving Style Container is defined as
metal container, a metal intermediate bulk container, or a metal portable tank that is equipped
with at least one pressure-relieving mechanism at its top that is designed, sized, and arranged to
relieve the internal pressure generated due to exposure to fire so that violent rupture is prevented
