Inside both stations, Air Products will be using 10% Hydrogen Fluoride, classified as a corrosive liquid, and it will not be heated. The combined quantity of corrosive liquids for both storage and open-use is below the Maximum Allowable Quantity for a single control area. BelOw is a description of each station: [Response provided by Air Products] The one called Acid Tank on the drawing (see attached) has a closed double-walled rectangular tank with a capacity of 125 gallons. It is called "closed" because it is completely enclosed on all six sides, and its contents are separated by a valve that only opens when acid is transferred from the closed tank to the open tank and back. It is connected to a vent that discharges via a scrubbed hOod exhaust. The open tank contains 50 gallons, but all of the acid for the 50 gallon open tank comes from the 125 gallon closed tank. The worst condition is 50 gallons in the open tank and 75 gallons in the closed tank. After the cleaning process in the 50 gallon tank is complete, the acid is pumped through a filter back to the 125 gallon tank. [Response provided by Air Products] The R&D sink (wash station) has 3 open tanks: one 50 gallon tank, uncovered and two 12.5 gallon tanks with covers. The total that could be in use is 75 gallons. When in use, the combined total quantity of Hydrogen Fluoride in open-use is 125 gallons and 75 gallons in storage. There are no other corrosive liquids within this control area. Per 2010 CFC Table 2703.1.1(2), the Maximum Allowable Quantity, for corrosive liquids in a sprinkler building is 1000 gallons in storage/aggregate quantity and 200 gallons in open-use. Warnings Condition A applies when supplementary reinforcement is used. The cf, factor is increased for non-steel Design Strengths except Pullout Strength and Pryout strength. Condition B applies when supplementary reinforcement is not used and for Pullout Strength and Pryout Strength. Refer to ACI 318. Part 0.4.4(c). Refer to the manufacturer's product literature for cleaning and installation instructions. Checking the transfer of loads into the base material and the shear resistance are required in accordance with AC1318 or the relevant standard! The anchor plate is assumed to be sufficiently stiff in order to be not deformed when subjected to the actions! An anchor design approach for structures assigned to Seismic Design Category C, D, E or F is given in ACI 318-08 Appendix 0, Part 0.3.3.4 that requires the governing design strength of an anchor or group of anchors be limited by ductile steel failure. If this Is NOT the case, Part 0.3.3.5 requires that the attachment that the anchor is connecting to the structure shall be designed so that the attachment will undergo ductile yielding at a load level corresponding to anchor forces no greater than the controlling design strength. In lieu of 0.3.3.4 and 0.3.3.5, the minimum design strength of the anchors shall be multiplied by a reduction factor per 0.3.3.6. An alternative anchor design approach to ACI 318-08, Part D.3.3 is given in IBC 2009, Section 1908.1.9. This approach contains 'Exceptions" that may be applied in lieu of D.3.3 for applications involving "non-structural components as defined in ASCE 7, Section 13.4.2. An alternative anchor design approach to ACI 316-08, Part 0.3.3 is given In IBC 2009, Section 1908.1.9. This approach contains "Exceptions" that maybe applied in lieu of D.3.3 for applications involving "wall out-of-plane forces' as defined in ASCE 7, Equation 12.11-1 or Equation 12.14-10. It is the responsibility of the user when inputing values for brittle reduction factors (4.) different than those noted in ACI 318-08. Part 0.3.3.610 determine if they are consistent with the design provisions of ACI 318-08, ASCE 7 and the governing building code. Selection of = 1.0 as a means of satisfying ACI 318-08, Part 0.3.3.5 assumes the user has designed the attachment that the anchor is connecting to undergo ductile yielding at a force level <= the design strengths calculated per ACI 318-08, Part 0.3.3.3.
