sets that may have been returned to you by the jurisdiction,

All sheets of the 2 sets of plans must be signed by a 4 too-

licensed architect or civil engineer. Please
include the California license number, seal, date of O '

specify use of the rooms created by the wall additions; ..
and all the spaces adjacent to the areas being remodeled
or improved. When the character of the occupancy or use
changes within a building, the building must be made to
comply with current Building Code requirements for the
new occupancy. Please provide complete details to show
the building will comply. Section 502.
Provide a note on the plans indicating if any hazardous
materials will be stored and/or used within the building
which exceed the quantities in UBC Table 9-A.
Sheet MP-5 of the plan shows corridor by the stairway
near Grid Line 4.5, while Sheet 2 of the plans do not
show this corridor. Please clarify. Is this existing?
If corridor is new, then this must comply with Section
3305(g) UBC.
MECHANICAL/PLUMB ING
Provide data and fire department approval for spray booths.

Recheck loads on panel schedules (i.e. loads for "DP4EB"
and "C" on DP4E. Do not match load totals on "DP4EB"
and "C".
"DP4EA" highest phase is 114 amps and panel is 100 amps.
Show loads on "LPlA" for humidifiers and revise calcs.
Check note 8 Tb1 310-16 for wire ampacities.
Revise load calcs on single line to show new loads.
Provide multiple switch lighting controls per CAC Title 24
2-5319.
If any new panels will be located in a firewall (i.e.
DP4EC) provide a detail showing how the firewall integrity

UNIFORM MECHANICAL CODE,

Section 706 (b)
Q . Can the space above the suspended ceiling of a one-
. hour corridor be used as a return-air plenum?
A
. Uniform Mechanical Code Section 706(b) prohibits use
. of a corridor as a duct or plenum when it is required to
be of one-hour fire-resistive construction by Uniform Building
Code Section 3305. Construction such as illustrated in Figure No. 2
cannot be used as a plenum because the space above the sus-
pended ceiling may be a component of a fire-resistive assembly,
but the ceiling alone has no rating.
In order to qualify as space separated from the corridor, full one-
hour fire-resistive construction should be applied as indicated in
Figure No. 1, creating a separation from the corridor. When the
ceiling of the corridor is constructed so that it has the equivalent of
one-hour rating of its own, then the space above it may be consid-
ered to be isolated from the corridor space and may be used as
circulating-air plenum.
The alternate to the tunnel-like corridor construction would be a
ducted circulating-air system.
