Get superb rigidity and
sound absorption in this
lightweight deck.
Give your performers the added confidence that comes
from SlageRight Decks. Made of high-strength outer
layers bonded lo a honeycomb core. the Decks are so rigid
that performers th r k they're on the permanent floor.
And they're remarkably quiet, too. The honeycomb core
absorbs resonance to reduce the "drumhead" effect that
can detract from a performance. Lightweight construct1011
means added safety for your crews. The decks are
reversible, giving you a choice for each event and doubling
their wear life. And the decks are tr terc.hangeable on
various StageRight support systems. allowing you to stage
nearly any type of indoor event.

RE: GUARDRAIL TEST REPORT
W AK PROJECT NO. 00-238-217
Dear Ken:
William A. Kibbe &. Associates, Inc.
Engineers • Architects • Consultants
May 2, 2000
This letter is a summary of the load tests performed on the gripper type guardrail assemblies
which you manufacturer. The tests were performed on Wednesday, April 6, 2000. Mr. John
Snyder, P.E. reviewed the tests for W AK. There were six (6) standard guardrail assemblies
tested. They were:
1) 4 '-0 long standard gripper style guardrail.
2) 6' -0 long standard gripper style guardrail.
3) 8'-0 long standard gripper style guardrail.
4) 4'-0 long ADA gripper style guardrail.
5) 6' -0 long ADA gripper style guardrail.
6) 8' -0 long ADA gripper style guardrail.
One additional test was also performed on a custom 8'-0 long ,ADA guardrail with three
gripper assemblies.
Two load tests were performed on each style of standard guardrail tested. In the first test the
load was applied in the middle of the rail. In the second test, the load was applied at the end
of the rail. Loads in both tests were applied in an outward direction.
The test procedures used were similar to procedures recommended in ASTM E 935.93·
"Structural Test Methods for Performance of Permanent Metal Railing Systems and Rails for
Buildings." In all tests, a concentrated load was applied using a hydraulic ram attached to a
load c;ell. The rails were loaded first to 100 lbs. then the loaq was released. Loads were then
applied to the rail in increments of 50 lbs. The load was released following each increment.
Each rail assembly was loaded to a point where permanent visible damage occurred and/or
deflection was determined to be unacceptable.
1475 S. Washington Ave.· Saginaw. Ml 48601 • 517-752-5000 • Fax 517-752-5002
Based upon the test results, it is our opinion all the guardrail assemblies tested can structurally
support a concentrated horizontal load of 200 lbs. at any location. The more critical case is
when the Load is applied at the end of the rail because there is less load sharing between the
gripper assemblies and vertical posts. All of the rail assemblies supported higher loads but
deflections were excessive. It was quite evident the ADA style rail performed better than the
standard rail when the load was applied at the center of the rail. Also the load test on the
custom 8' -0 ADA rail indicated that deflection can be significantly reduced in the longer rails
when a third gripper assembly is added.
Based upon our review of the test results, we have concluded the following:
1. All rails tested can satisfactorily support a concentrated load of200 lbs. at any point.
2. The 4' -0 long standard and AD A rails can support a concentrated load of 300 lbs. at any
point.
It was very obvious that the attachment of the deck with the gripper assembly is the most
critical part of the guardrail. Most of the rails sustained little permanent visible damage. If
the assembly was damaged, it occurred in the top rail of the longer 8'-0 rails and the vertical
pipe of the shortest 4 '-0 rails.
Based upon our observations, we recommend using the 4' -0 long rails when a guardrail
assembly is required to support concentrated load requirements higher than 200 lbs. and/or a
uniform load of 50 pl£ Also, based upon the positive test results of the custom 8'-0 rail, we
would suggest performing additional testing ofthis assembly. This assembly could offer an
alternative to the shorter 4'-0 guardrails. Attached to this letter is a copy of the test results
recorded by StageRight personnel and drawings for each standard rail assembly tested.
Please review the above and call if you need additional assistance.
Sincerely,
"-""""'-~~~~IA~INC.
John K. Snyder, P.E.

Re: SR Project #R15510 -Stair Certification
The stair design intended for StageRight Project #R15510 detailed on StageRight Dwg. #R15510-A1 meets
applicable standards set forth in the International Building Code{2000). These include minimum requirements
for stair tread run of 11 inches. Minimum stair tread rise of 4 inches or a maximum rise of 7 inches as dictated
by application. Stair width will not be less than 36 inches when occupant loads are less than 50. Individual stair
tread loads have been designed to meet IBC requirements including a uniform load of 100 pounds per square
foot and a non-simultaneous 300 pound concentrated load on an area of 4 square inches. Handrails meet
dimensional and loading requirements including 50 plf and a non-simultaneous 200 pound concentrated load.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on extension 368.
