Fire dampers shall be installed per Section 713.11 at all ducted or unducted air openings at penetrations of corridors or horizontal exit walls. 6. Please revise the plans to show all doors opening into the 1 HR corridor to have a minimum 20 min assembly rating, be self closing and installed with smoke seals. Please further clarify the _note on the door legend on A 1.1 what a " drag hold open" is. 7. Please note on the plans per City of Carlsbad "AC Cable is not allowed in A, B, E, H, and I occupancies. It was indicated that two fan .. coil units were to be installed suspended from the roof framing generally as indicated in the attached diagram. In addition, three -condensing units are to be installed on the roof. There was a concern cJ regarding the capability of the roof system sdpporting these loads. The purpose of this investigation is to analyze the added loads with respect to the capacity of the roof system. The fan coil units are indicated to weigh a maximum of 225 pounds. The condensing units are indicated to weigh approximately 200 pounds each. · The roof system in the location for the installation consists of glue laminated main girder supports, approximately 6x24 with 4x14 sub-purlins spaced approximately 8 feet on center. The fan coil units are to be suspended from steel angle members attached to the sub-purlins. Our analysis indicates that the load adds approximately 17 psi to the extreme fiber in bending on the sub-purlins and 37 psi to the extreme fiber in bending on the gl~e laminated beams. This addition is a very small fraction of the capability of these structural members.· The condensing units should be installed on the roof over the main glue laminated beams as close to the support columns as practical. The added load of 200 pounds to the beams is considered to be negligible. It is our opinion that the installation of the above noted equipment to the roof system will not adversely affect or overload the system.
