Please make all corrections on the original tracings and submit three new sets of prints, to: The Carlsbad building department. STRUCTURAL The butt joint glass panels must be designed to resist a mm. of 20 PLF applied at 42" above the deck surface. These panels serve as the required guardrail. UBC 509.1 and Table 16-B, item 9. Submit design calc's and construction details for the support of the glass panels. THE RESPONSE TO THIS ITEM WAS "SEPARATE CACULATIONS SEPARATE. PERMIT" This is not acceptable unless specifically approved by the city building official. The structural support of the glass panels is a basic safety issue for the occupants of the proposed deck. The steel lateral resisting columns must be designed using an Rw=3 for an inverted pendulum structure. The individual columns are not OMRF. See UBC Table 16-P. Submit revised lateral calc's for the columns and footings for the increased seismic load. THE RESPONSE WAS TO SEE THE REVISED CALC'S. THERE WERE NO REVISED CALC'S SUBMITTED WITH THE REVISED PLANS. The lateral deflection must be limited to 0.005 X H per UBC 1628.8.2 for seismic design. The deflection must be limited to 0.005 X 9 X 12=0.54". Submit revised design calc's. Show that handrail which project from a wall shall have a space of 11/211 between the wall and the rail. Handrails may be located in a recess (:Q" deep) extending ~18" above the top of the rail, per Section 1006.9.2.5a. SANITARY FACILITIES 15. Sanitary facilities are required to be accessible, unless the enforcing agency determines that compliance with these standards would create an unreasonable hardship. Provide a completed HARDSHIP WAIVER REQUEST FORM if equivalent facilitation is requested to be permitted, per. Section 1115B.1. 16. Note that the doorways leading to sanitary facilities shall be identified, per Section 1115B.5, as follows: An equilateral triangle 1/41 thick with edges 12" long and a vortex pointing upward at men's rest rooms. A circle 1/41 thick, 12" in diameter at women's rest rooms. A 12" diameter circle with a triangle superimposed on the circle and within the 12" diameter at unisex rest rooms. The required symbols shall be centered on the door at a height of 60". Braille signage shall also be located on the wall adjacent to the latch outside of the doorways leading to the sanitary facilities, per Section 1117B.5.9.
