The footing sizes were reviewed and determined the size of the footings being reduced from the two square footings at 30" each to the two footings at 30"x27" were within the requirements for the loads involved. However, it has been requested by the field inspector to provide the calculation for this change. Attached is a revised calculation showing that the reduced footing size will work for the 32" shearwall location with an overall footing size of 30" wide by 54" long. 2. · The field inspector has requested that a response be made to the use of 2x12 blocking in lieu of the L VL or Truss joist blocking. The use of 2x12 blocking is acceptable. This review is for clarification purp9ses only. Inspections and approvals by city building officials are still required. However, we hope this will assist in the finalizing of the field inspections and approval of the project. Review April 10, 2008 Viking Construction RE: $witchfoot Project 2221 Las Pa/mas Carlsbad; CA Site review date: April 3, 2008 The following construction observations and reviews are noted: 1. Portions of the installed exposed footings were observed and photographs were provided for review of the installed new footings. It appears that all the footings have been installed in compliance with approved documents. 2. The required Simpson Strongwall systems were not installed as per plans. These walls need to be installed as per plans. The structural engineer has revised the calculations to require one 32" and one 24" Strongwall. These may be installed with epoxy anchors as per details of the approved documents with a special inspection. 3. The hold-down anchors provided for the shearwa/1 adjacent to the first floor toilet can not be observed. These hold-downs m?Y be tested by a certified pull test for verification of required minimum load by a special inspection. See structural calculations for minimum load requirements. 4. The hold-downs located along the shear wall at the stair are not required as per structural calculations. The may remain bµt do not need testing. Documents have been revised to show this. · 5. Connections of walls at roof structure have been reviewed and changes have been made to documents to reflect existing conditions. Some blocking may be required in conditions where partitions are parallel to framing. This review is for clarification purposes only. Correct the water line sizing calculations on sheet P1 .1: A) The plans seem to show only one water meter for all tenants in this building. But the water line sizing calculations do not show the total water demand, existing and new on the existing water meter. B) Clearly show the size of the existing water meter and check the pressure loss as per UPC, Chart A-1 for the total building water demand in the building. C) Correct the required minimum water pressure at the fixtures. The proposed water heater requires 20 psi, and if any flush valve water closets are proposed in the building at least 25 psi may be required. Please correct the only 8 psi minimum pressure at the fixtures allowed in the water line sizing calculations. D) Please list in the pipe sizing table for each pipe size the maximum allowed GPM flow as per UPC, Chart A-4.
