The section requires that a ceiling height of 7’-6” be provided in at least half the room area due to the sloping ceiling. The prescribed area is that which begins at a point where the minimum height of the room is 5’-0”. The room as shown is too large for the height and area requirement. The room is still too large to meet the requirement of this code section. Adjust the wall shown between the proposed room and the attic so that half the area of the room has a minimum height of 7’=6’’. Show the 7’4” height at the mid point of the room. Note the room must also have a minimum area of 70 sq. ft. per UBC Section 310.6.2. Section 310.9.1.2. Please show or note on the plans that smoke detectors will be installed in all existing bedrooms and the hallways leading to the bedrooms. 5.
