Inc. 2956 Industry Street, Oceanside, California 92054 (619) 757-0248 August 12, 1988 Job 7440 Kathryn Puckett 4330 La Pootalda Carlsbad, California 92008 Subject: Limited Geotechnical Investigation Patio Enclosure 2275 Nob Hill Drive Carlsbad, California Dear Mrs. Puckett: As you requested we have performed a limited geotechnj.cal investigation in the area where the existing patio is to be enclosed. The purpose of . the investigation was to determine the characteristics of the existing soils supporting the patio and to recommend what would be the appropriate foundation revisions that might be necessary for the proposed expansion. Our investigation consisted of.the excavation of two test pits adjacent to the existing slab and roof column. The tests pits revealed a moist silty find sand as the bearing strata for the slab.and columns. The soils present are not expansive. The proposed improvement', was to enclose the existing patio by the building of non load bearing exterior walls. The existing roof extends over the patio and is supported by three columns and existing house, walls. One test pit was dug to determine if footings existed beneath the roof supporting columns. A footing was found beneath the roof column. The existing patio slab was inspected for signs of distress. The patio Which is approximately 17 years old.showed no signs of distress. Based on the presence of footings beneath the existing columns, the performance of the slab to date, the non-expansive nture.of the underlying soil, and its excellent bearing characteristics, and the proposed 'o•r!c:..;.,h.i'ch.consists primarily of non-load bearing walls' bi'h'e:'écter.ior' we would not recommend, any additional footings beneath the existing slab beyond those that are already in place at the column locations. ed GeOteCl Investigation Page 2 Enclosure August 12 1988 'r1sbad, California Job No; 7440 We appreciate', .
