November 28,1989 (Project No. D-4229-H02).
2. Final Report of Testing and Observation Services During Grading [for] Arroyo La
Costa Unit 2, Lots 118 through 465, Carlsbad, California, prepared by Geocon
Incorporated, dated November 24,1997 (Project No. 05845-12-01).
Dear Ms. Barr;
In accordance with your request, presented herein are our recommendations for geotechnical
parameters for design of a segmental retaining wall planned for the subject residential lot. We
understand mat the wall will have a maximum height of approximately 4 feet and be located along
the bottom of the ascending slope at the rear of the building pad.
Review of the as-graded site conditions indicate that the lot pad and the rear ascending slope are
comprised of dense, partially cemented, silty sands (sandstone) of the Torrey Sandstone formation.
Laboratory testing performed on this material as a part of the original site investigation indicated that
the following geotechnical parameters may be utilized in design of retaining structures.
Internal Angle of Friction 0 = 3 8 degrees
Soil Unit Weight = 130 pounds per cubic foot
Allowable Soil Bearing Pressure = 2,000 pounds per square foot
The retaining wall should be provided with a backdrain with drainage directed to a suitable outlet.

The Keystone Standard is an American original. What started the
industry is still the industry leader. Its height-to-depth ratio delivers a
structurally sound, engineered wall system with superior
construction stability, durability, and strength. The choice for tall
walls and critical structures.

The Keystone Compac is the perfect choice where the deep

easy to handle for smaller walls.

The Keystone Mini is a great solution for smaller, non-critical
applications. It is easy to handle and easy to install. Makes for an
attractive wall on its own or as an accent when integrated with the
8" (200 mm) high Standard or Compac units. The proportion and
scale of the Mini units blend well with brick and ledge stone
typically found in residential construction. The unit is also used
for the 4" (100 mm) high cap module to complete most wall
installations. The cap unit has a smooth top surface without
openings to give a coping appearance.
