• Please make all corrections on the original tracings, as requested in the
correction list. Submit three sets of plans for commercial/industrial projects
(two sets of plans for residential projects). For expeditious processing,
corrected sets can be submitted in one of two ways:
1. Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the
City of Carlsbad Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA
92009, (760) 602-2700. The City will route the plans to EsGil Corporation and
the Carlsbad Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
2. Bring one corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to EsGil
Corporation, 9320 Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858)
560-1468. Deliver all remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly
to the City of Carlsbad Building Department for routing to their Planning,
Engineering and Fire Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil Corporation only will not
be reviewed by the City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until
review by EsGil Corporation is complete.
NOTE: The items listed below are from the previous correction list. These
remaining items have not been adequately addressed. The numbers of
the items are from the previous check list and may not necessarily be in
sequence. The notes in bold are current.
3. Indicate the use of all spaces located above the area being remodeled or
improved that will use the stairs and common exit path within the
remodeled area. The response was "See sheet A-2" There is nothing
on sheet A-2 indic~ting the use of the floor above this tenant
improvement or how the occupants above exit from the 2nd floor
without having to go though the lower level.
4. Provide a note on the plans indicating whether any hazardous materials
will be stored and/or used within the building which exceed the quantities
listed in UBC Tables 3-D and 3-E. The response was "See Note #7 -
sheet A2" Note #7 on E2 references the list of chemicals on this
sheet: The chemical list must include classification of each chemical
consistent with UBC Tables 30 or 3E and the quantities in use and
storage. Without this information-I-can not determine the occupancy
classification.
5. Provide a complete description of the activities and processes that will
occur in this tenant space. A listing of all hazardous materials should be
included. The materials listing should be stated in a form that would make
classification in Tables 3-D and 3-E possible. The building official may
require a technical report to identify and develop methods of protection
from hazardous materials. Section 307.1.6. The cover sheet of the plans

lists the occupancy as B-2, office laboratory and assembly. The
electrical plans list fume hoods within the complex. The mechanical
plans include a complex exhaust system. What is the purpose of the
fume hood? Why is the occupancy classification 8-2. It appears
there is manufacturing and assembly throughout the proposed.
Clarify the purpose of this facility and correct the occupancy
classification where necessary. THE RESPONSE WAS "SEE
REVISED FLOOR PLAN-SHEET A2 AND BUILDING CODE ANALYSIS
ON T-1" THE PLANS LIST THE OCCUPANCY AS F-2 AND 8. AN F-2
OCCUPANCY IS FOR PRODUCTION OF NONCOMBUSTIBLE
PRODUCTS WITH NO COMBUSTIBLES USED IN THE PROCESSING
OF THE PRODUCT. THE OCCUPANCY CLASSIFICATION APPEARS
TO BE CLOSER TO AN F-1 MANUFACTURING PLANT. HOWEVER,
WITHOUT A COMPLETE CHEMICAL LIST CONSISTENT WITH UBC
TA~LES 3D & 3E THERE IS NO WAY FOR ME TO CLASSIFY THE
OCCUPANCY.
6. In order to not be classified as a hazardous occupancy (H1, 2 or 3), the
aggregate quantity of any hazardous materials "in use" and "in storage"
shall not exceed the quantity listed in Tables 3-0 and 3-E for "storage".
Footnotes 2 and 3, Tables 3-0 and 3-E. The chemical list found on
sheet A2 must include chemical.classifications based on UBC Table
3D & 3E and include the quantities in use and storage. WhaUs the
purpose of the chemical storage room? This room is shown to be 1
HR construction. What code section requires the 1 HR construction?
Is this room a separate occupancy that requires an occupancy
separation? Please clarify.
7. Provide a section view of all new interior partitions. Reference detail wall
construction found on sheet A2.1 to the appropriate wall location on
the legend on sheet A2. Reference the 1 HR corridor tunnel detail to
the location on the plans where it applies. I presume all the hatched
areas shown on the floor plan on sheet A2 are one hour rated
corridors and the tunnel detail applies to these areas. Clearly show
or note on the plans that all doors opening into the fire rated
corridors are to be 20 min .. rated, self closing assemblies. Why does
the floor plan show "Non-rated" walls as part of the fire rated
corridoT~ Please clarify.
• ELECTRICAL
11. Note 4 on sheet E8.1 indicates existing panel LP3 will be changed from
1 OOA to 400A. This revised panel and feeder is not shown on the single
line on sheet E2.1. Clarify where this panel applies on the single line
diagram. The single line on sheet E2.1 now shows panel LP3 fed

from panel LP1. The panel schedule on sheet ES for LP1 does not
include the loads from panel LP3, LP1 A. Please clarify.
12. The panel schedule shows that new fume hoods will be installed. What
are the fumes within these hoods? Are the fumes explosive or flammable?
If the fumes are explosive or flammable the wiring and fixture within the
hood must be listed for Class I location. Please clarify. The response
was " No new fume hoods are being added. See revised panel
schedule-sheet E8.1" The mechanical plan sheet M4 still shows
exhaustducts located at all the new work benches and stations and
extending into the chemical storage room and toilets. If there is no
new exhaust system where does all the ducting originate. What is the
purpose of the ducting for the exhaust system which now includes
the work benches, chemical storage room and bath rooms.
• MECHANICAL
13. Clarify on the plans which exhaust system is for environmental air such as
rest room exhaust and which exhaust system if for the proposed fume
hoods. The exhaust system now shown on M4 indicates exhaust
from the Chemical storage will be mixed with exhaust from the work
benches and environmental exhaust:from the new rest rooms. Clarify
what is being exhausted, the type of ducting for the ducts (chemical
exhaust) and the reason fro the exhaust at the work stations.
14. Provide information on the type of fumes to be exhausted in the new fume
hoods. Specify the thickness and type of ducting to be used for the new
fume hoods. No information was provided concerning the type of_
exhausted material from the work benches and the chemical storage
room.

This plan review is limited to the technical requirements contained in the Uniform Building Code,
Uniform Plumbing Code, Uniform Mechanical Code, National Electrical Code and state laws
regulating energy conservation, noise attenuation and access for the disabled. This plan review
is based on regulations enforced by the Building Department. You may have other corrections
based on laws and ordinances enforced by the Planning Department, Engineering Department,

• Please make all corrections on the original tracings, as requested in the correction list.
Submit three sets of plans for commercial/industrial projects (two sets of plans for
residential projects). For expeditious processing, corrected sets can be submitted in
one of two ways:
1 . Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA 92009, (760) 602-
2700. The City will route the plans to EsGil Corporation and the Carlsbad Planning,
Engineering and Fire .. Departments.
2. Bring one corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to EsGil Corporation,
9320 Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858) 560-1468. Deliver
all remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of Carlsbad
Building Department for routing to their Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil Corporation only will not be
reviewed by the City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by EsGil
Corporation is complete.
1. Provide a statement on the Title Sheet of the plans stating that this project shall
comply with the 2001 edition of the California Building Code (Title 24), which
adopts the 1997 USC, 2000 UMC, 2000 UPC and the 2002 NEC.
2. Provide a note on the site plan indicating the previous use of the tenant space or
building being remodeled. Section 106.3.3.
3. Indicate the use of all spaces located above the area being remodeled or
improved that will use the stairs and common exit path within the remodeled
area.
4. Provide a note on the plans indicating whether any hazardous materials will be
stored and/or used within the building which exceed the quantities listed in USC
Tables 3-D and 3-E.
5. Provide a complete description of the activities and processes that will occur in
this tenant space. A listing of all hazardous materials should be included. The
materials listing should be stated in a form that would make classification in
Tables 3-D and 3-E possible. The building official may require a technical report
to identify and develop methods of protection from hazardous materials. Section
307.1.6. The cover sheet of the plans lists the occupancy as 8-2, office
laboratory and assembly. The· eleetrical plans list.fume hoods within the
complex. The mechanical plans include a complex exhaust system. What is
the purpose of the fume hood? Why is the occupancy classification 8-2. It
appears there is manufacturing and assembly throughout the proposed.
Clarify the purpose of this facility and correct the occupancy classification
where necessary.
6. In order to not be classified as a hazardous occupancy (H1, 2 or 3), the
aggregate quantity of any hazardous materials "in use" and "in storage" shall not

exceed the quantity listed in Tables 3-D and 3-E for 11storage11

7. Provide a section view of all new interior partitions. See the wall types listed on
the cover sheet T-1 and referencing construction details on sheet A6.1.
There was no sheet A6.1 included with the plans. Show:
a) Type, size and spacing of studs. Indicate gauge for metal studs. Specify
manufacturer and approval number or indicate 11to be ICBO approved11

b) Method of attaching top and bottom plates to structure. (NOTE: Top of
partition must be secured to roof or floor framing, unless suspended
ceiling has been designed for partition lateral load).
c) Wall sheathing material and details of attachment (size and spacing of
fasteners).
8. In buildings having floors and roofs of wood frame construction, other than
dwelling or hotel occupancies, draft stop the area between the ceiling and roof
above so that no concealed space exceeds 3,000 s.f. and no horizontal
dimension exceeds 60 L.F. (if space has sprinklers, then 9,000 s.f. and 100
L.F.). Section 708. Show on the plans the location of the draft stops above
the dropped ceiling. Note that the draft stops may not exceed 3000 sq ft or
60 LF. For the floor ceiling system.
9. Provide an exit analysis plan. Show in this analysis the occupant load of each
area, the general-exit flow patterns (by using arrows), accumulated occupant
loads and required fire rated corridors or hallways as required by the UBC.
10. Exit signs are required whenever two exits are required. Show all required exit
sign locations. Section 1003.2.8.2. Include on sheet E6 of the electrical plans
the location of all required exit signs.

11. Note 4 on sheet E8.1 indicates existing panel LP3 will be changed from 1 OOA to
400A. This revised panel and feeder is not shown on the single line on sheet
E2.1. Clarify where this panel applies on the single line diagram.
12. The panel schedule shows that new fume hoods will be installed. What are the
fumes within these hoods? Are the fumes explosive or flammable? If the fumes
are explosive or flammable the wiring and fixture within the hood must be listed
for Class I location. Please clarify.
• MECHANICAL
13. Clarify on the plans which exhaust system is for environmental air such as rest
room exhaust and which exhaust system if for the proposed fume hoods.

• • Please make all corrections on the original tracings, as requested in the correction list. Submit
· three sets of plans for commercial/industrial projects (two sets of plans for residential projects). For
. expeditious processing, corrected sets can be submitted in one of two ways:
1. Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of Carlsbad
Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA 92009, (760) 602-2700. The City will route
the plans to EsGil Corporation and the Carlsbad Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
2. Bring one corrected set of plans ahd calculations/reports to EsGil Corporation, 9320 ·
Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858) 560~ 1468. Deliver all remaining sets of
plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of Carlsbad Building Department for routing to-their
Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil Corporation only will not be reviewed by the City
Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by EsGil Corporation is complete.
1. Specify on the plans the type of ducts used for the manufacturing exhaust systems. The ducts
must be compatible with the exhausted fumes.
2. Include calculations to show that the exhaust systems within the manufacturing area are cpable
of 6 air changes per hour. UBC 1202.2.2.
3. How do you intend to provide the required 1005 MUA for the manufacturing exhaust systems.
The total exhausted air 12,550 CFM.
