Compacted filled ground was placed on an orea b~twecn Levante Street and Lois 31 and 32
of Spanish Vil loge Unit I-Jo. 1 and on three: otl,l:r meas adjacent to Levanli: Streat designat..?d
as Fills "A", ''B" and "C". The op;•roxirnote locations of these off-site fil I areas ore shown
on Drawing No. 1.
The final results of test£ and obsorvalions indicate that tlie compacted filled ground hos been
placed at 90 percent of the maximum d-y demit)' or greater. It has been determined that the
fill materials, compacted to 90 percent of the maximum dry density, hove a safe bearing value
of 1653 pounds per square foot for one foot wide continuous footings founded at least one foot
below the final compacted oround su1 face and placod five feet or more imidc the top of com-
pacted filled ground 5loµes. If foolinas are placed closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet in-
side the top of compacted filled grounJ slopos, these should be deepened one foot below a 1 1/2
horizontol to 1 vertical line proioctcJ outward and downword from a point 5 feet horizonlolly
inside the top of compacted fill,:;d urotmc..l slopes. Test. indic.ote that the compacted filled
ground is adequate to rntisfactorily support the proposed one and two story wood frame dwellings
without detrimental solllements,
As was stoled in our report of tho preliminary soils investigation conducted on this subdivision,
(Pro(ect No. 73-3-168( <lated May 10, 1973), oxpansivo soils may exist in the upper three
feet below finished gradt3 ofter the completion of grading. Expanslvo soil conditions were
observed to exist on the following lots:
Type A (Crlticaily expansive)

In order to minimize possible detrimental effect, caused by these potentially expansive solls,
the following special design and precoutions are recommended:
TYPE A LOTS
(CrTiTc;,Jly Expansive)
1. Avoid the use of isolalcd interior pion. Use continuous interconnected
r"inforccd concrete footings throughout, ond place theso al a minimum
dcpth of 24 inches Le low the lowest adjacent exterior final ground
surface.
2. Reinforce and inturc:onnect continuously with steel bors all interior and
exterior footings with one /;5 bar at 3 inches above the bottom of the
footings and one fi 5 Lw placed 1 1/2 inches below the lop of the stems
of the footings.
3. Raised wo::id.::n floors that span between continuous footings ore best, or
use concrete slc,bs reinforced with ol least 6 x 6 -10/10 welded wire
fabric. A minimum of 4 inches of crushed rock 3/4 lo I inch in size
should be placed beneath all cor,crcde slobs and covered will, o moisture
barrier. Two inches of clean sand should then be placed over the
moisturll barrier und below the batlor11 of the slob.
4. Seporc,tu ooragc slabs from perimeter footings by a 1/2 inch thickness of
constn;ction foll or equivalent, to allow independent movement of garage
slobs rdotive to pci imctcr footings. Assure complete separation by ex-
tenuing the felt over the full depth of tho front thick1med edge of the
garage slob. Also, c11I off tho garage door stops of least 1/2 inch above
the slab.
5. Exercise every effort lo assure that the soil under the concrete slabs hos
o uniform moisture content at least I lo 3 percent greater than optimum
through.:iut the top l .5 r~c1 b~low finished grade at the time of placing
the fountlations ant! slaLs.
6. Provide positive drainc,au awcy from all perimeter footings with a vertical
fall of of least 5 inches lo a hori:tontol distanco of 5 feet outside the house
walls.
TYPE B LOTS
(Marginally Expansive)
l. Use the same tlcsign as recommended for Type A lots excopt for the
fol lowing changos:
a) Footings may be placed.al a minimum dopth of I ,5 feet
bu low the final ground surface.

All buried exterior utility lines sl,ould be Cily of Carlsbad approved plastic lines due to the
corrosive characteristics of the soils, unless sufficient field tests ore token lo establish that
noncorrosive soils exist in the utility trench areas,
