SUBJECT: PALOMAR AIRPORT OFFICE PARK
Dear Mr. Camero,
Per your request I inspected the reinforcing of Panel E-l on Build-
ing #3.
You were right, several bars of the beam flare were not in their
proper location. However, these bars constitute secondary reinforc-
ing and moving them to the inside column would have represented a
heavy burden at this time.
The primary reinforcing (column reinforcing and beam reinforcing)
was correct and adequate. The vertical as well as the horizontal
loads will, be transmitted to and carried by the column.
I think the panel is adequately reinforced as it is.

Dear Mr. Camero:
The question arose whether the 3 #9 bars shown in Detail 21/S-19
need additional anchorage.
The beam in question supports horizontal loads such as wind or
earthquake loads. It is a simple supported beam spanning, typic-
ally, between vertical column/beams. These supporting elements
in turn span from floor to roof.
Our horizontal simple beam requires that the bars extend a mini-
mum of 6" into their supports. These spandrel beams can not tear
loose from their supports.
We conclude the support of the spandrel beam is okay as is.

All equipment shall be specifically designed and approved for
exterior use end shall be approved by the city of Carlsbad Building
department.
All equipment shall be screened from view and the design shall meet

The screen shall have as few roof connections as possible and
be structurally adequate.
All electrical, plumbing, mechanical duct work and related piping
shall be inside the building and not on the roof. Al] connections
related to equipment shall be made in the same roof opening on the
platform or meet the approval of the city of Carlsbad Building de-

Sewer vents shall "be brought to one main vent below the rcof and
have one penetration where restrooxs or other plumbing fixtures are
back to back or in the general proximity.
Air exhaust fans and other equipment shall be within the building
and use the same roof opening where restrooms and other equipment
are back to back or in general proximity.
Existing buildings and equipment, remodel or replacement, shall meet
the above regulations whenever possible or shall have the approval
of the city of Carlsbad Building department.
Where new equipment is installed, unused or abandoned equipment,
