ONE-HOUR FIRE-RESISTIVE CORRIDORS
In the interest of uniform interpretation concerning proper fire-resistive
protection for corridors, the following examples are recommended. Although
numerous variations arc possible, almost all situations can be categorically
grouped into one of the following example cases.
These recommended examples consider the requirements of Section 3305(g) of
the Uniform Building Code which reads in part as follows:
Construction: Walls of corridors sorvtnp. an occupant load of 30 or
more shall he of not less than one-hour Fire-resistive construction and
the ceilings shal 1 ho not less than that required for a one-hour fire-
resistive floor or roof system.
When the ceiling of the entire story Is nn element of a one-hour fire-
resistive floor or roof system, the corridor wall may terminate at the
ceiling. When the room side fire-resistive membrane of the corridor
wall is carried through to the underside of a fire-resistive floor or
roof above, the corridor side of the ceiling may he protected by the
use of ceiling materials as required for one-hour floor or roof system
construction or the corridor ceiling nay be of the same construction as
the corridor walls.

Wall or celling membrane which is an element of a one-
hour fire-resistive floor, roof, or wall system.
Non-fire-rated suspended ceiling.
Duct with fire dampor required.
Duct - no fire damper required.

system must be noncombustible or fire-
retardant treated wood in corridor. May
be untreated wood in adjoining rooms.
Ceiling finish materials are regulated by
Table 42-B of the Uniform Building Code.

wall construction.
Case 2 Applicable to Type TI1-N & V-N construction.
