ITEM NO. 1 Eric questioned the extent to which the City of Carlsbad Building Inspection Department will enforce handicap requirements under tenant improvement work. Under the new code, the maximum effort required to operate a door shall not exceed 8½ pounds for exterior doors; and in conjunction with the exterior store- front door, the bottom 10 11 of al 1 doors shall have a smooth uninterrupted surface to allow the door to be opened by a wheelchair footrest without creating a trap or hazardous condition. Carter has sta _ that the City of Carlsbad does not currently have a method of determin· t aunt of effort required to operate the door; however, a 1011 plate be r~ d for installation under tenant improvements. cc: Those Calling Mick Kubota EC:kk Glendele Office: 1808 WEST Gl.ENOAKS BLVD •• GLENDALE, CALIFORNIA 91201 a [813) 507-0400 8-Z-2-'2.L/ -22-~ -62,f'.o ESGIL CORPORATION 9320 CHESAPEAKE DR., SUITE 122 SAN DIEGO, CA 92123 ('714) 560-1468 feu1s.1av1~ +o f(l,eu,auSLG( t%7(!1l2ovee9. fl~s. Due to the large amounts of reinforcing occurring at the inte:i;_se-ction of jamb bars and chord steel, the· jamb bars may be terminated directly below the chord bars. All of the holdowns for Building 'C' where fabricated as 7 11 wide·. -These may be changed to 6 11 wide as necessary. Due to the location of pilasters at the ends of some panels it was necessary to locate holdowns in from the end of panels. The jamb bars lapping with the holdown steel shall be within 6 11 of each other to facilitate an effective spliceo Due to the large quantities of jamb steel at four locations i~ Bui~ding 'C' the proper placement of jamb steel, . holdown steel, and typical reinforcing became difficulto The spacing of jamb bars may be increased to an. ,overall tied length of 16" at these locations with a corresponding change in #3 ties. CA . ,. -~- Si PACKAGED HEAT PUMPS MODEL 542E030 MODEL 542D060 MOUNTED ON ACCESSORY ROOF-MOUNTING CURB Models 542D & 542E are our latest generation of packaged heat pumps for residential and commercial appiications. These heat pumps are the result of our firm commitment·to the design and de- velopment of the finest heat pumps modern technology can offer. Our commitment is backed by our advanced engineering, testing, and research laboratories; and our wealth of practical experience. Model 542E is designed in two basic cabinet sizes, features a side-by-side duct configuration, and ranges in size from 024 thru 060, with voltage options to meet most residential and commercial requirements. This model installs easily on a rooftop or a ground- level pad. Model 542D is used with an accessory roof-mounting curb and in- corporates a down-discharge/return-air plenum as an i_ntegral part of the unit; thereby, substantially reducing the installation time and cost. This model is offered in the 060 size with 3-phase voltage options. 542D & 542E FEATURES FACTORY-ASSEMBLED PACKAGE is a compact, fully self-con- tained, all-electric, combination heating/cooling unit that is pre- wired, prepiped, and precharged for minimum installation expense. RUGGED, EFFICIENT, COMPRESSORS are specifically de- signed for heat pump duty and high energy efficiency during heat- ing and cooling operation. Each compressor is hermetically. sealed against contamination to help promote longer life and dependable operation; and vibration isolated to provide quiet operation. During healing operation, these reliable compressors are designed for· continuous operation down to extremely cold outdoor tempera- tures. All compressors have internal high-pressure aRd overcur- rent protection. ·:J~~t : • ,-:: ~· ...... l. ,: Model542E Sizes 024 thru 060 & Model 542D060 INDOOR BLOWER MOTORS have been carefully selected to min- imize energy consumption and to withstand the heavy-duty, year .. round operation required by heat pumps. These motors are de- signed to meet the requirements of a wide variety of residential and commercial applications. Belt-drive motors are used on 060- size, 3-phase units-direct-drive, multispeed (except 460-V) PSC motors are used on all other units.· DIRECT-DRIVE, PSC, OUTDOOR FAN MOTORS have been selected to help reduce energy consumption. Outdoor fan motors on all 3-phase units are two-speed and are thermostatically con- trolled to provide low-ambient cooling operation down to 40°F. Single-phase units are designed for cooling operation down to 55°F with field-installed 40°F low-ambient kits available as an option. BUil T-IN RELIABILITY COMPONENTS include a suction-tube accumulator that keeps liquid refrigerant from reaching the com- pressor, a low-pressure switch that stops the compressor if the re- frigerant pressure drops to an unsafe operating level, a crankcase heater to keep the compressor oil warm and free of refrigerant for maximum lubricity, compressor quick-start components on single- phase units to improve starting characteristics, and a unique _ metering device to eliminate potential serviceability requirements of check valves and expansion devices. UNIT DESIGN-Indoor and outdoor coils are computer-designed for optimum heat transfer. Vertical outdoor fan discharge carries sound and air up and away. Heavy-duty base rails provide for ex- tra support and feature forklift slots (Model 542E only) for easier and safer handling before installation. The high-voltage inlet panel is designed to accommodate a field-installed electrical discon- nect. A low-voltage terminal block simplifies thermostat connec- tions. Refrigerant service connections make checking operating pressures easier. TIME/TEMPERATURE DEFROST system is used to increase heating cycle efficiency. This.type of defrost system has proven to be very reliable. The time/temperature control "looks" for coil· icing conditions only at preset time intervals, starts the defrost cycle only if the defrost thermostat senses icing conditions, and automatically ends the defrost cycle when the coil has warmed sufficiently to melt the ice. WEATHERIZED CABINETS are constructed of heavy-duty, phosphated, zinc-coated steel; and finished with corrosion-resist- ant, modified alkyd, fade-resistant, baked Malibu beige enamel. Interior surfaces of the blower section are insulated to help keep the conditioned air from being affected by the outdoor ambient temperature. ACCESSORIES & OPTIONS SUPPLEMENTAL ELECTRIC HEATERS that mount inside the heat pump blower compartment are available in a variety of KW ·and voltage options. SINGLE-POINT WIRING KITS are available for use with most supplemental electric heaters to permit a single power supply for both the heat pump and the heater; thereby, reducing installation costs. A FULL LINE OF ROOFTOP SYSTEM ACCESSORIES is availa- ble for field installation, including: plenums (not required with the · 542D), curbs, horizontal or plenum economizers, flexible duct packages, concentric diffuser boxes, barometric relief dampers, and filter racks. EFFICIENCY-ALARM CIRCUIT-This circuit locks out the com- pressor and lights up the room thermostat emergency-heat light if there is a compressor malfunction. This warning reduces the likelihood of high-cost heating bills by alerting occupants to the problem. This optional circuit also provides compressor protection by locking out the compressor if any of the other protection devices in the system have detected a malfunction. The com- pressor and efficiency-alarm circuit can be manually reset with the room thermostat. ADDITIONAL ACCESSORIES & OPTIONS are available to meet the particular requirements of a variety of applications. See the System Accessories & Optional Equipment listings in this publica- tion. The mode smoothness index of coated coarse sub- strates (such as concrete block) shall be at least 50% of that of same coating applied to a smooth substrate (such as g~psum wallboard). -(See Note 7J Thickness Verification Verify the dry film thickness of completed finish system in the field, at random, using a Tooke Mark II Coating Inspection Gauge. Cured mastic color and clear glaze steps shall be minimum thickness of 15 mils over all substrates, excluding foundation or fill coats. Conduct test in the presence of Architect or his representative. I ' . . Specification Notes 1. Glazetite Type II is a special for- mulation with greater moisture re- sistant qualities. It should be speci- fied in wet or high humidity areas such as shower and steam rooms, laundries and areas frequently steam cleaned. 2. Custom bolors are available; con- tact Desco Applicator for informa- tion. 3. Other glazes are available to suit special conditions, such as oper- ating rooms. Contact Desco Appli- cator for information. 4. Variations in ratings are due to difference in interpretation of cal- culations by the Testing Authorities. 5. The Underwrlters's Laboratories "Label Service" assures the speci- fier that the quality materials sup- plied are identical to those tested. If substitute materials are being con- sidered, proof should be requested that the material has been tested by Underwriters' Laboratories and that the UL Label Service is in force. 6. Performance specifications, de- scribing the tested physical and/or chemical properties of Glazetite can be prepared by adding the proper- ties listed in Glazetite Performance Properties/Charts. (See over) 7. The smoothness index is depen- dent on the degree of coarseness of the substrate. Very coarse sub- strates may require 2 coats of foun- dation or filler coat to obtain the minimum index of 50% required by specification TTC-001225. The index may be increased where a smoother finish is desirable, or reduced for cost savings where TTC-001225 re- quirements are not necessary. ., Petformance Properties Desco Glazetite Properties Weather Resistance Weather O-Meter Moisture Resistance Water Immersion 14days@ 70°F. Subject: Desco Glazetite, an interior wall finish material. II. Description: Desco Glazetite: General: The material is in- tended for use on surfaces regulated by Section 1711 of the Uni- form Building Code. The Desco Glazetite process involves the use of a combination of colored, inorganic mastic and clear, non-yel- lowing glaze finish, It is' used as a surface coating in lieu of tile or an equivalent nonabsorbent material for the protection of shower and tub enclosure walls and the walls of public toilet compartments over approved backing materials. Desco Glazetite is a high-viscosity material composed of approximately 10 percent resin, with the balance chiefly graded silicate and asbestos, along with inorganic color pigments. All materials are delivered to the job site in unopened factory labeled containers to which nothing is added but reducers, in an amount ranging from five percent to 10 percent depending upon the desired textures. All backing for the Glazetite application must be properly cured and dry. The moisture content shall not exceed 16 percent as measured with a standard moisture meter. Wall temperatures are to be maintained at a minimum temperature of 50°F. before and during the actual application and for a period of 24 hours there- after. Installation: For installation over concrete concrete block, port- land cement plaster or brick backing materials, all holes and cracks are to be filled and any efflorescence is lo be removed by an acid washing, Bond breaking surface agents containing wax or oil shall not be used on the surfaces to be coated. The surface imperfections are to be repaired with a Desco Foundation Coat made up of one part white portland cement, one-half part No. 60 silica sand to which is added one gallon of Dexotex color coat emulsion and sufficient water to obtain the desired consistency. This mix is ap- plied by brush or spray equipment over the affected areas to pro- vide a uniform, #60 mesh sand finish to receive the Glazetite mastic and clear finish. The Desco Foundation Coat is required to cure 24 hours prior to the application of the mastic and finish coat. Desco Glazetite may also be a_pplil\)d to surfaces of exterior grade plywood, cement-asbestos board, tempered hardboard, and, water- Re ort No. 1771 June, 197 resistant gypsum backing board. All plastered surfaces are re- quired to be smooth-troweled or have a fine #60 mesh sand finish free of irregularities ·and containing no lightweight aggregates. All installations of gypsum wallboard, exterior grade J?lywood, cement- asbestos board, and tempered hardboard shall be adequately fastened to the supports in m1 approved manner with the joints butted, filled, taped and/or sanded as required to provide a smooth, even surface. All adjacent surfaces that are not to receive the Glazetite coat- ing system shall be carefully masked prior to the start of the appli- cation. The Glazetite mastic is spray-applied over the surfaces in a uniform, continuous operation so as to result in a dry film thick- ness of 16 to 20 mils, and allowed to cure for 24 hours.
