Observations:
A site visit was made to observe thc general status of the project, and specifically. to il~vcstigate
existing foundation conditions which differed from those assumed in the original design. Since we
do not have ori&al construction drawings for the building, our design assumed that the existing
footings steps generally followed the adjacent exterior grade. AAer the concrete piers had been
placed and most of the grade beam excavation completed, the existing footings dcpths were found
to differ from the assumed depths at the footing between the comer of 2402G and 24021-1 Altismn.

the existing footings stepped down to a lower deptb than the surrounding footings.
At the stepped footing below 2402F and 2402G. we recommend that the top bars which would
interfere with the existing footing be lowered to 3 inches below the bottom of the existing footing.
The lowcred top bars shall be extended 4"O" minimum beyond the end of the footing step at each
end. The hottom bars and tho top bars which do not interfere with the existing footing shall
remain at their orig.inally detailed elevations. The ties shall be modified to miss the existing
footing for the length of the footing step only. The ties on either end of the footing step shall
remain as originally detailed. See the attached detail SD-1 showing the above modilications at the
footing step.
At the stcppd footing bclow 24020 and 2402F1, we recommend that a portion of the existing

stepped footing and stem wall be removed so that the elevation of the bottom of the remaining
footing and stem wall matches the adjacent bottom of footing elevation. With this modification,
the grade beam can be constructed as detailed on our repair dtawings, except that at the portion
of the grade beam where the stem wall is supported directly on the grade beam rather than on the
existing footing, the dowels from the existing footing to the new grade beam shall be embedded
4" into the existing CMU wall, and their spacing shall be reduced to 16" on center. At the portion
of the grade beam where the existing footing remains above the grade beam, the grade beam and
its connection to the existing footing shall be constructed as detailed on our repair drawings.

FOREWORD (PLEASE READ):
This plan review is limited to the technical requirements contained in the Uniform Building Code,
Uniform Plumbing Code, Uniform Mechanical Code, National Electrical Code and state laws
regulating energy conservation, noise attenuation and disabled access. This plan review is
based on regulations enforced by the Building Department. You may have other corrections
based on laws and ordinances enforced by the Planning Department, Engineering Department
or other departments.
The following items need clarification, modification or change. All items must be satisfied
before the plans will be in conformance with the cited codes and regulations. Per Sec. 303 (c),
1991 Uniform Building Code, the approval of the plans does not permit the violation of any
state, county or city law.
1. Please make all corrections on the original tracings and submit two new sets of prints to:
ESGIL CORPORATION.
2. To facilitate rechecking, please identify, next to each item, the sheet of the plans
upon which each correction on this sheet has been made and return this sheet
with the revised plans.
3. Please indicate here if any changes have been made to the plans that are not a result of
corrections from this list. If there are other changes, please briefly describe them and

4. According to the recommendation of the Soils Engineer, the piles should be capable of
resisting lateral and shear forces accompanying sliding. Piles and caissons shall be
designed for flexure whenever the tops of such members will be displaced by earthquake
motions. The criteria and detailing requirements of Section 2625 (e) shall apply for a
length of such members equal to 120 percent of the flexural length. Revise structural
calculations to comply.
