Department, Fire Department or other departments Clearance from those departments may be
required prior to the issuance of a building permit
Present California law mandates that construction comply with the 2007 edition of the California
Building Code (Title 24), which adopts the following model codes 2006 IBC, 2006 UPC, 2006
UMC and 2005 NEC
The above regulations apply, regardless of the code editions adopted by ordinance
The following items listed need clarification, modification or change All items must be satisfied
before the plans will be in conformance with the cited codes and regulations Per Sec 105 4 of
the 2006 International Building Code, the approval of the plans does not permit the violation of

Deliver all remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department for routing to their Planning, Engineering and
Fire Departments
NOTE Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil Corporation only will not be reviewed by
the City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by EsGil Corporation is
complete
5 Please provide calculations that will show that the single 3/8 inch lag bolt
spaced 32 inches on center will resist the lateral forces intended to be
transferred from the deck to the existing dwelling. Otherwise, show how
where your lateral resisting structure is located Provide calcs.
Call out the size and length of the lags proposed to attach the ledger to the
existing rim joist shown in detail 1/2
6 Agreed Section 3/2 and the partial elevation of the front of the deck clearly
shows that the support posts run down the face of the deck and are
attached with 5/8 inch lags It is also true that no supporting posts are
shown on the sides of the deck running back to the dwelling. Please show
how you will attach the side guards.
The length of guardrail from the outside corner of the deck to the house does not
appear to be attached to the house wall and it does not appear that any of the
uprights extend down below the deck surface to attach to the side of the joists to
provide lateral resistance Show how the side guards will resist a 200 Ib load
applied in any direction at any point along the top and have attachment devices
and supporting structure to transfer this loading to appropriate structural

1 Correct the square footage project data on sheet 1 from 258 to 270 SF (10 x 27
per plan)
2 Provide an elevation of the existing wall to which the new deck will attach Show
the location and size of all openings Show which openmg(s) will be removed and
replaced with a door(s) Call out the U value of the door(s) on the plans to meet
Title 24 energy code
3 Show the location of all openings on the existing exterior wall below where the
new deck will attach Show that the existing header(s) will carry the additional
weight of the new deck Provide calculations
4 Section 2/2 on sheet 2 shows a 4 x 14 running from the outside corner of the
deck to the house Show how the 4 x 14 will attach to the glulam and the house
to carry the load of the deck Call out all hangers
5 Call out the size and length of the lags proposed to attach the ledger to the
existing rim joist shown in detail 1/2
6 The length of guardrail from the outside corner of the deck to the house does not
appear to be attached to the house wall and it does not appear that any of the
uprights extend down below the deck surface to attach to the side of the joists to
provide lateral resistance Show how the side guards will resist a 200 Ib load
applied in any direction at any point along the top and have attachment devices
and supporting structure to transfer this loading to appropriate structural
