SLOPE FAILURE ABOVE LAS CASITAS TERRAZA (CT 85-16)
Thank you for the letter of concern about the slope failure above the Las Casitas
Terraza project. This particular failure has been reviewed by the City and we have
been informed by the property owner that they are proceeding with the needed repair
work. Initial indications are that the failure is superficial in nature and does not
represent a potential safety hazard to the residents living above or below the failure.
Because the slope failure exposed the footing to an existing gazebo structure, our
Principal Building Inspector, Mr. Pat Kelly, has been monitoring the situation and will
be working with the property owner to assure that the slope is properly repaired. All
work will, of course, be done under the direction of a qualified geotechnical engineer.
Presently, the property owner is attempting to obtain financial assistance from the
Federal Emergency Management Agency prior to making the repairs.
During the interim, if the residents within Las Casitas Terraza experience any drainage
or soil deposition problems caused as result of this failure, we suggest they contact
the uphill property owner to discuss resolution of the problem. If you need further
