I appreciate the background information you sent along which assists me making atirnely decision and response to your request There are allowances and regulations for the construction and placement of kiosks in malls in the Uniform Building Code, Chapter 56 and the Uniform Fire Code, Chapter 35. And as long as each of your kiosks and their locations comply with all Of those regulations, you may place them in the mall area In general the applicable standards are outlined in the October 19, 1989 letter from CCI's James Ambrose to Mr. Harris of the Carlsbad Fire Department. The Codes however do not draw distinctions between permanent and temporary kiosks. Building Permits are generally not required for moveable cases, counters, and partitions not over , 5'9" in height However, electrical and plumbing, permits are required for any permanent connections to those systems. All of the kiosks.shall comply with the applicable Uniform Code sections as noted above, including, but not limited to, spacing, combustibility, and aisle width I suggest that you process with the Fire Department a plan view of the mall floor showing all allowable areas for not only kiosks, but all intended uses such as table top shows, automobile displays, seasonal events etc This will give you the flexibility to change the use as needed without further review by the City for each change.
