Please make all corrections, as requested in the correction list. Submit FOUR new
complete sets of plans for commercial/industrial projects (THREE sets of plans for
residential projects). For expeditious processing, corrected sets can be submitted in one
of two ways:
1 . Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA 92008, (760) 602-
2700. The City will route the plans to EsGil and the Carlsbad Planning, Engineering and
Fire Departments.
2. Bring TWO corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to EsGil, 9320 Chesapeake
Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858) 560-1468. Deliver all remaining sets of
plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of Carlsbad Building Department for
routing to their Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil only will not be reviewed by the City
Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by EsGil is complete.

The following disabled access items are taken from the 2016 edition of California Building
Code. Per Section 1.9.1.2, all privately funded public accommodations and commercial
facilities shall be accessible to persons with disabilities.
Where existing elements or spaces are altered, each altered element or space shall
comply with applicable requirements of Division 2, including CBC section 11 B-202.4. CBC
section 11 B-202.4 states that when alterations or additions are made to existing buildings,
an accessible path of travel to the specific area of alteration shall be provided. See
exceptions to 118-202.4. If it is known that the accessible path of travel has already been
improved during this or the previous code cycle, please note the permit numbers on the
plans and update the scope of work to state that the accessible path of travel meets
current standards based on work previously done.

d) Show the existing ramp (if any) slope, cross-slope, 48" minimum width, 60"
x 60" landing at the top, 72" long landing at the bottom, compliant changes
in direction (60" x 72") in compliance with CBC 11 B-405.
e) Show the existing stair (if any) width, riser and tread dimensions,
contrasting stipes, handrail height, gripping surfaces and top/bottom
extensions in compliance with CBC 11 B-504 and 505.
f) Show the existing accessible entrance door hardware, door width, and
maneuvering clearances on either side of the door in compliance with CBC
11B-206.4.
3. Existing toilet facilities that serve the remodeled area shall be shown to comply
with the accessibility features of CBC, 11 B, Division 6. Provide generic restroom
details showing compliance.
4. Existing drinking fountains (if any) shall be shown to comply with the accessibility
features of 11 B-602 and 11 B-211.2.
5. Existing accessible parking reflectorized identification including the "van
accessible", "250 fine", and "unauthorized vehicle parking" signs per 11 B-502.6,
11 B-502.6.2, 11 B-502.8.2.
a) Existing accessible parking surface identification. 11 B-502.6.4.1.
b) Existing access isle "NO PARKING" identification per 11 B-502.3.3
6. Show that compliant restrooms are marked with signs per 11 B-703.7.2.6.3,
including braille and the International symbol of accessibility. 11B-216.8.
a) AB1732 Section 1, Article 5: 118600:
All single-user toilet facilities in any business establishment, place of
public accommodation, or state or local government agency shall be
identified as all-gender toilet facilities by signage that complies with Title
24 of the California Code of Regulations and designated for use by no
more than one occupant at a time or for family or assisted use.
b) The location of and directions to the compliant restrooms shall be posted in
or near the building entrance and shall include the International symbol
of accessibility. 11 B-216.8.

7. Please show details for an accessible compliant transaction counter for parallel or
forward approach:
a) For parallel approach, a portion of the counter surface that is 36" long
minimum and 34" high maximum above the finish floor. (Where the
provided counter surface is less than 36" long the entire counter surface
shall be 34" high maximum.
b) For forward approach, a portion of the counter surface that is 36" long
minimum and 34" high maximum above the finish floor. A 30" x 48" clear
floor space shall be positioned for forward approach, with knee and toe
clearance per 11 B-306 provided under the counter.
8. Please note on the plans that new receptacles will be installed within the reach
ranges of 11B-308.
• MECHANICAL/ ELECTRICAL/ PLUMBING
9. Please show that the potable water supply to beverage dispensers, carbonated
beverage dispensers, or coffee machines are protected by a legal airgap, a
vented back flow preventer, or a reduced pressure principle backflow preventer.
The relief valve shall drain indirectly into the sewer with a legal airgap. CPC
603.5.12.
10. Please show that the water supply connection to the commercial dish washing
machine(s) is protected by an air gap or a back-flow prevention device. CPC
414.2.
11. Please show that potable water outlets with hose attachments, other than water
heater drains, boiler drains, and clothes washer connections, are protected by a
nonremovable hose bib-type backflow preventer, a nonremovable hose bib-type
vacuum breaker, or by an atmospheric vacuum breaker installed not less than 6
inches (152 mm) above the highest point of usage located on the discharge side
of the last valve. CPC 603.5.7.
12. Equipment #4 is shown twice at two different sinks. Please clarify this at sheet A-
2.0.
13. Please relabel the details at sheet PE-1.0. The reflected ceiling plan appears to be
the plumbing plan .....
14. Please clearly show all plumbing vent pipe sizes on the plumbing plan.
15. Please show on the plumbing plan that the drainage piping is vented by means
of one or more vent pipes with an aggregate cross-sectional area that is not less
than that of the sewer pipe. CPC 904.1.

1) Department of Environmental Health -Food and Housing Division IDEH-FRD) stamped plans shall be printed on a
minimum 11" by 17" size paper to scale. Ensure each sheet is the same size and legible. A paper copy of the plans must be
maintained at the jobsite to construct from and available for the Specialist to review at the time of your inspections.
2) Changes to equipment layout, menu, or application must be submitted for approval. Changes made without approval will make the
plan approval null and void.
3) Obtain local Building Department and all applicable agencies pennits and approvals PRIOR TO FINAL INSPECTION AND
APPROVAL TO OPERA TE BY THIS DEPARTMENT.
4) All food and utensil-related equipment shall be certified to applicable sanitation standards by an ANSI accredited testing agency.
5) Upon completion of 50%-80% of construction, email : celeste.penn@sdcounty.ca.gov to schedule a mid-inspection. In lieu of a
plumbing inspection by DEH, ensure that the plumbing is constructed to these standards:
a. Floor sinks shall be installed ½ exposed and equipped with an appropriate grill cover ifno access is provided for cleaning.
b. Drain lines shall slope '/4" per foot, shall not exceed 15' in length and shall terminate a minimum of I" above the floor sink
with a legal air gap or otherwise approved by the enforcing agency. Drain lines shall not intersect walkways or door ways.
c. No condensate drainage of any kind can drain to the mop sink.
d. 3-compartment sinks, preparation sinks, dump sinks, and any other plumbed equipment must drain indirect to a floor sink.
e. Grease traps/interceptors, if required by the local waste water authority must be located outside of the food preparation, food
storage, or warewashing areas.
f. Floor surfaces must be sloped I :50 to required floor drains.
g. Conduits of all types shall be installed within walls as practicable. When otherwise installed, they shall be mounted or enclosed
in a chase so as to facilitate cleaning.
6) Owners and/or operators must pass an approved and accredited Food Safety Certification course. Proof of successful completion of
this course is to be furnished at the final inspection.
7) All equipment is to be in place and functional. At the time when the final inspection is requested, the faci lity shall have all utilities
operational and all refrigeration shall have an ambient air temperature of38°F or below and shall be equipped w ith a thermometer
accurate to +/-2°F in the warmest section of the unit.
8) Seal all cracks, gaps and crevices in counters, cabinets, around metal flashing, sink backsplashes, around pipes and conduits with
silicone sealant.
9) ANY FOOD PROCESSING AREAS MUST BE COMPLETELY ENCLOSED. OPERABL'E WINDOWS, MOVEABLE
WALL PANELS, GARAGE ROLL-UP DOORS. OR OTHER MEANS OF RENDERING FOOD PROCESSING AREAS
NOT FULLY ENCLOSED ARE NOT APPROVED.
10) Be advised, applicable jurisdiction requirements that result in changes to approve.d plans may require revisions to the
Department of Environmental Health plans.
