Show on the plans a guardrail for the landing that complies with the following: Guards (Section R312): a) Shall have a height of 42" (may be 34" along the sides of stairs). b) Openings between railings shall be less than 4". The triangular openings formed by the riser, tread and bottom element of a guardrail at a stair shall be less than 6". 11. Open risers are only permitted if the opening between treads does not permit the passage of a 4" diameter sphere. Section R311.7.4.3. See detail 11 on sheet 4 of the plans. 12. Handrails (Section R311.7.7): See detail 11 on sheet 4 a) The handgrip portion of all handrails shall be not less than 1-1/4 inches nor more than 2 inches in cross-sectional dimension.
