The loose fill soils found i .n the upper O. 5 foot of Pi ts 1 and 2 ·sha 11 be removed and re compacted to provide suitable foundation and slab support. The following conclusions and recommendations are professional op1n1ons that are based upon the site investigation, laboratory test results, and engineering analyses and calculations. These opiriions have been derived in accordance with current standards of practice. No warranty is. expressed or implied. Expansive Soils The results of the expansion tests indicate that the clayey fine sand soils are classified as having low expansion potential with respect to volumetric· change with change in moisture content, but our compacted f-i l led ground report dated October 12, 1971 on La Costa Meadows Unit 1 indicates that critically expansive soils exist within portions of the upper thre~ feet · of the compacted fill on Lot 179. Therefore, we r~commended that special designs and precautions be taken to incorporate the existence of critically expansive soils. The typical design requirements for critically expansive soils are presented in Appendix C. Allowable Bearing Value An allowable bearing value of 1930 pounds per square foot for a one foot wide continuous footing founded a minimum depth of 2.0 feet below finished grade wa~ given in our compacted filled ground repor~ dated October 12, 1971 for La Costa Meadows Unit 1 and would apply for this lot. The settlement of a 1. O foot wide continuous footing founded as stated above and in Appendix C and supporting a uniform load of 1930 pounds per lineal foot is estimated to be on the order of 1/8 inch. ·· BENTON ENGINEERING. Use continuous footings throughout, and place these at a minimum depth of two feet.below the lowest adjacent exterior final grou~d surface. If footings are placed within five feet of the top of compacted f~lled groun~ slopesJ then the footings should be deepened one·foot below a 1½ horizon~al to 1 vertical line projected outward and downward from a poirit five feet horizontally inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. 2. Reiriforce and interconnect continuously with steel bars all interior and exterior footings with one #5 bar at 3 inches above the bottom · of the footings and one #5 bar placed 1½ inches below the top of the stems of the footings. 3. Presaturate to assure that the soil under the foundaticins ind slabs has a uniform moisture content, 80 percent(±) saturation throughout the top three feet below finished grad~ at the time of placing found~tions and slabs. · 4.
