Gentlemen:
This is to report the results of tests and observations made in order to inspect the compaction
of filled ground placed on certain areas of Lots 186 to 19 1, inclusive, and 195 to 205,
inc!osivs, of La Costa South Unit No. 2, San Diego County, California. The fills were
placed dunir the period between October 2 and October 24, 1969, with some final cleanup
in February, 1970.
The cproximate areas and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection in accordance
with the approved specifications are shown on the attached Drowkg No. 1, entitled "Location
of Cornpac;ed Filled Ground." The grading plan used for the placement of filled ground was
prepared by Rick Engineering Company and dated August 12, 1969.
The approximate locations at which the tests were taken and the final test results are presented
On pges3 and 4, under the "Table of Test Results." The laboratory determinations of the
maximum-dry densities and optimum moisture contents of the major fill materials are presented
on poge 5, urkr the "Laboratory Test Results." Some of the maximum dry densities shown in
ti1. "Table of Test Results" were combinations of these. The tests were token durire the weekly
pods n'Jiccted below:
Project No; 69-10- ID -2- February 24, 1970
La Costa South Unit No. 2
The fincl results of tests and observations indicate that the compacted filled grou nd has been
placed at 90 percent of the maximum dry density or greater. It has been determined that the
fill materials, compacted to 90 percent of the maximum dry density, have a sale bearIrj value
of at least 2000 pounds per rquare foot for one foot wide continuous footings founded at a
minimum depth and placed five feet or more inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes.
If footings are placed closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet inside the top of compacted filled
ground slopes, these should be deepened one loot below a I 1/2 horizontal to I vertical iinc
projected outward and downward frcn-i a point 5 feet horizontally inside the top of compacted
filled ground slopes. Tests indicate that the compacted filled ground is adequate to satisfactorily
support the proposed one or two story wood frame dwellings without detrimental settlements.
Incur report of the original investigation conducted at this subdivision, (Project No. 69-3-24EC
dated May22, 1969), we stated that some "expansive" soils existed on the site and if they were
allowed to remain in the upper 3 feet below finished grade some of the lots would require
specially designed footings and stabs. We further.stated that these lots would be listed upon the
completion of grading Ajjofthjjpts were found to have critically expansive Soil remaining in
upperThe 3 feet . •
It is recommended that the following, special design precautions be taken for the houses to be
constructed in the subject subdivision.
Isolated interior piers should not be used. Continuous footings should be used
throughout, and these should be placed at a minimum depth of two feet below the
lowest adjacent exterior final ground surface.
Reinforce and interconnect continuously with steel bars all interior and exterior
footings with two #4 bars at 3 inches above the bottom of all footings and two #4
bars placed 1 1/2 inches below the top of the stems of the footings.
Use raised wood floors that span between continuous footings, or reinforce all
concrete slabs with 6 x 6 - 10,10 woven wire fabric and provide a minimum of
4 inches of clean sand beneath all concrete slabs. Provide a moisture barrier
2 inches below slabs under living areas.
Separate garage slabs from perimeter footings by 1/2 inch thickness of construc-
tion felt oi- equivalent, to allow independent movement of goroge slabs relative
to perimeter footings.
Provide positive drainage awy from all perimeter footings to a horizontal distance
of at least 6 feet outside the house walls.
The safe beaiinj value for footings on natural ground is 1795 pounds per square foot.

The appiication must be signed by the owner. (or his authorized representative) of
the property to be served. The total charges must be paid to the District at the
time the application is submitted.
If a service lateral is required, it will be installed by the Leucadia County Water
District. The service lateral is that part of the sewer system that extends from
the main collection line in the street (or easement) to the point in the street (at
or near the applicant's property line) where the service lateral is connected to
the applicant's buildingsewer. The applicant is responsible for the construction,
at the applicant's expense, of the sewer pipeline (building sewer) from the appli-
cant's plumbing to the point in the street (or easement) where a connection is made
to the service lateral.
The connection of the applicant's building sewer to the service lateral shall be
made by the applicant at his expense. The connection must be made in conformity
with the District's speci.ficatios, rules and regulations; and IT MUST BE INSPECTED
AND APPROVED BYTHE DISTRICT BEFORE THE SEWER SYSTEM MAY BE USED BY THE APPLICANT.
THE APPLICANT, OR HIS AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE, MUST NOTIFY THE DISTRICT AT THE
TIME INSPECTION IS DESIRED. ANY CONNECTION MADE TO THE SERVICE LATERAL OR COLLEC-
TION LINE WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL AND INSPECTION BY THE DISTRICT WILL BE CONSIDERED
INVALID AND WILL NOT BE ACKNOWLEDGED.
The prorated sewer service fee is based upon the date the District estimates that
service will begin and covers the balance of the fiscal year. There will be no
additional fee or refund if service actually commences on a different date. For
succeeding fiscal years, the sewer service fee will be collected on the tax roll
in the same manner as property taxes.
The undersigned hereby agrees that the above information given is correct and agrees
to the conditions as stated.
