COMPACTION REPORT FOR SITE AT 2552 LA COSTA AVENUE
CARLSBAD, ALSO KNOWN AS LOT #31, LA COSTA SOUTH, #1
In accordance with your request, this report has been prepared to
establish the degree of compaction of the compacted fill as tested by
MV Engineering, Inc. between May 17 and May 19, 1982.
Prior to grading operations, the site was cleared of grass and debris.
Adequate keys were made in the proposed fill area in order to establish
a good base for supporting the proposed compacted fills. The fill was
then placed in six-to eight-inch lifts and compacted by means of
heavy construction equipment.
F'ield density tests were performed in accordance with AS'l'M Test Methocl
D-1556-64. Moisture content was determined for each density sample.
The results and locations of the tests are given on the attached sheet.
A representative sample of the tested material was obtained for
laboratory testing.
A laboratory compaction test to determine maximum dry density and
optimum moisture was performed in accordance with ASTM D-1557-70,
Method A. The result of the laboratory compaction test is given on
the attached sheet.
Slopes should be planted with erosion resisting plants and natural
drainage should be directed away from the top of all slopes and buildings.
The minimum footing requirements from Benton Engineering's report No.
68-11-23D dated June 23, 1969, also our letter dated March 17, 1982 (see
enclosed copy) should be adhered to.

As per your request we have visited the subject site to determine
whether or not the site has changed significantly since the
initial grading was completed in 1969.
The site appears finished graded and undamaged by erosion or soil
improvement. An expansion test on the on-site soil confirms the
findings as presented by Benton Engineering in their report
No. 68-ll-23D dated June 23, 1969 (copy attached).
In conclusion, we find the site unchanged from the initial
grading concept and recommend adherence to the design precautions
presented in the above mentioned report .

The finol results of tests and observations indicate that the compacted filled ground has been
placed at 90 percent of the ma><imum dry density or grea!er. It has been determined that ihe
fi'I materials, compacted to 90 percent of the ma><imum dry den>lty, have a safe bearillj value
;,fat least 1510 pounds per square foot for one foot wide continuous footirgs founded ot a
mi nlmum depth and placed fiye feet or more Inside the top of compacted fi I led ground slopes.
If footires are placed closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet Inside the top of compacted filled
ground slopes, these should be deepened one foot below a I l,n horizontal to I vertical line
r:,rajected outward and downward from a paint 5 feet horizontally inside the top of compacted·
:;'fed ground slopes. Tests indicate that the compacted filled ground is adequate to satisfactorily
>uppart the proposed one and .two story wood frame dwellirgs without detrimental settlements.
In our report of the original investigation conducted at this sul::di,;ision, (Project No. 68-2-2C
dated Morch 8, 1968), we stated that some silty cloy ond sandy cloy soils hod been found c;>n
tne site. that_ were expansive, ond we recommenJ.,d that each lot be inspected ~url!"Q or ofter

It is recommended thc,t the followire special dc~ign precautions be taken far the houses to be
constructed on the above-listed lots:
1. Isolated Interior piers should not Le used. Continuous footirss sh~ld be used
throughout, and these should be placed at a minimum depth of two feet below
the lowest adjacent exterior final grou·nd surface.
2.
3.
Reinforce and Interconnect continuously with steel bars oil interior a_nd exterior
footirgs with two ,4 bars at 3 Inches above the bottom of all footires and two
#4 bars placed 1 t_n inches below the top of the stems of the footirgs.
Use raised wood Floors that span b-,t-en continuous footirgs, or relnforc~ all
concrete slobs with 6 x 6 -10/10 woven wire fabric, and provide a minimum of
4 Inches of cloan sand benttath all concrete slabs. Provide a moisture barrier
2 Inches below slabs under llvi_ng areas.

We, La Costa Hotel & Spa, do hereby agree to install an
underground drainage line from the rear property line of
Lot 31 to the existing drainage ditch behind lot 24.
It is expected that this work will be completed within 60
days. It is also our understanding that you will connect
your surface drains into the underground drain line, by way
of catch basins at your expense, and thereby avoid drainage
directly onto the golf course.
