I CARLSBAD 11-1083 JUNE 1, 2011 • LOCATION ON PROPERTY 1. When two or more buildings are on the same property, the buildings shall have an assumed property line between them for the purpose of determining the required wall and opening protection and roof cover requirements, per Section 705.3. An exception is provided if the combined area of the buildings is within the limits specified in Chapter 5 for a single building. If this exception is used, show how the building(s) will comply. Section 503.1.2. Show an assumed property line between this addition and the existing classroom building on site plans. 2. Exterior walls shall have a 30 inch parapet when they are required to be fire- resistance rated in accordance with Table 602 because of fire separation distance (see exceptions, Section 705. 11 ). The uppermost 18" of such parapets shall be noncombustible. 3. Please show on the plans the required rating for openings in exterior walls, based on fire separation distance. Tables 715.4 and 715.5. 4. Combustible projections located where openings are required to be protected (or where openings are prohibited) shall be heavy timber or 1-hour fire-resistance- rated construction. For most buildings, this applies to projections within 5' of the lot line in nonsprinklered buildings, and 3' for sprinklered buildings. Section 705.2.3. • FIRE PROTECTION 5. Exterior walls and projections shall comply with one of the following tables. Section R302.1. Use this table if the building DOES NOT have an automatic fire sprinkler system. In dwelling units within which fuel-burning appliances are installed (and in dwelling units having attached garages), show the locations of permanently wired carbon monoxide alarms with battery backup, per Section R315: a) Outside each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms. b) On each story, including basements. • NOTE: When more than one carbon monoxide alarm is required to be installed, the alarm devices shall be interconnected in such a manner that the actuation of one alarm will activate all of the alarms in the unit. 8. When alterations, repairs or additions are proposed for dwelling units within which fuel-burning appliances are installed (and in dwelling units having attached garages), the dwelling unit shall be provided with carbon monoxide alarms located as required for new dwellings; the carbon monoxide alarms shall be interconnected and hard wired. Exception: Carbon monoxide alarms in existing areas need not be interconnected and hard wired where the alterations or repairs do not result in the removal of interior wall or ceiling finishes exposing the structure, unless there is an attic, crawl space, or basement available which could provide access for hard wiring and interconnection without the removal of interior finishes. Section R315.2. 9. Include on the plans the following specifications for electrical devices installed in dwellings: CEC Article 210 & 406 a) Tamper resistant receptacles for all locations described in 210.52 (i.e., all receptacles in a dwelling). b) Arc-fault protection for all outlets (not just receptacles) located in rooms described in NEC 210.12(8): Family, living, bedrooms, dining, halls, etc. c) GFCI protected outlets for locations described in NEC 210.8: Kitchens. 10.
