Gentlemen:
This is to report the result observations and soil tests performed on & 9-27-79 - at na Court, La Costa, California
.I".__
for the purpose of determining the Imisture content in tile expansive s-ils
included on the subject site.
Field explorations were made to retrieve soil samples in the center of the
building pad. Test pits were dug to a depth of at least 3 feet belcw finish
grade and moisture samples were obtained at intermediate livels. We found the
field moisture to be 26.1
A maximum dry density deteninaticn was performed in accordance with ASTM Dl557
to ascertain the optimum moisture contect of the subJect soil. The maximum
density was found to be 109.0 Lbs. Cu. Ft. at 17.5 % moisture.
In conclusion WE find the field moisture exceeds the optimum by at least
-
5 percent which meets the minimum requirements for presaturation of
expansive soils.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact this office.
The opportunity to be of service is sincerely appreciated.

SUBJECT: REPORT OF COMPACTED FILL FOR 2631 ACUNA COURT, LA ISTA, CALlFORNl A
Dear Sir:

of 90 percent.
To briefly summarize our findings, we found fill to be compacted to a minimum
we recommend that construction continue as scheduled.
SCOPE
-unction consisted of providing the soil engineering services to certify
compliance with the current standard practices regarding site grading and
earthwork and to determine the degree of compaction of fill placed on the subject
site.
The approximate location and depth of filled ground and extent of grading
covered by this report is indicated on attached Plate No. 1 entitled, "Test
Location Sketch".
lhe grading was performed for the purpose of constructing a level building pad
and consisted of cut-fill earthwork.
SOIL CONDITIONS
in general, the native soils encountered were silty clays. Soils used in the
filis were imported and also generated from the on-site excavation.
Laboratory tests were performed on typical and representative samples to
determine maximum density, optimum moisture content and potential expansion.
The results of these tests are presented in tabular form on the following
Plate No. 2. The building site was found to be located in an area traversed

PROJECT NO. V 1622
Expansive soils were encountered during grading and exist at finish grade.
Therefore, specially designed foundations, slabs and construction details Will
be necessary ,to decrease the probability of structural damage.
Fill and compacted soil was' placed, watered and mechanically densified in
12 inch lifts. Prior to placement of fill, the areas to receive fill were
scarified, watered and compacted to 90 percent. To verify the degree of
compaction, field density tests were performed in accordance with ASTM D2922
at the locations indicated on attached Plate No. 1. The results of these
tests as well as their vertical locations are presented- in tabular form on
the attached Plate No. 2. During grading, any fill found to have a relative
compaction of less than 90 percent was reworked until the proper density had
been ach i eved.
GENERAL SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The final results of our tests and observations indicated that the filled
ground has been compacted to a minimum of 90 percent. The earthwork has been
accomplished in accordance with the grading specifications and current
standard practices .
