The final results of tests and observations indicate that the compacted filled ground has been
^Icced at 90 peicent of the maximum dry density or greater. It has been determined that the
fill materials, compacted to 90 percent of the maximum dry density, have a safe bearing value
of 1930 pounds per square foot for one foot wide continuous footings founded at a minimum death
of one foot bejow finish grade and placed five feet or more inside the top of compacted filled
ground slopes. If footings are placed closer to the exposed slop-es than 5 feet Inside the top of
compacted filled ground slopes, these should be deepened one foot below a 1 1/2 horizontal to
1 vertical line projected outward and downward from a point 5 feet horizontally mslds the top
of compacted filled ground slopes. Tests indicate that the compacted filled ground is adequate
to satisfactorily support the proposed wood frame dwellings without detrimental settlements,
Expansive clay, silty clay/ and sandy clay soils were placed In the upper three feet In certain

project No. 70-10-28D -4- October 12, 1971
Honcho La Costa
[t Is recommended that the following special design and precautions be taken for the houses to
be constructed on the above lots.
Type A Lots
1. Avoid the use of isolated interior piers. Use continuous footings throughout,
and place these at a minimum depth of two £ee_t below the lowest adjacent
exterior final ground surface.
2. Reinforce and interconnect continuously with steel bars all interior and
exterior footings with one °5 bar at 3 inches above the bottom of the footings
and one "5 bar placed 1 1/2 inches below the top of the stems of the footings.
3. Exercise every effort to assure that the soil under the foundations and slabs has
a uniform moisture content, 1 percent to 3 percent greater than optimum through-
out the top 3 feet below finished grade at the time of placing foundations and
slabs.
4. Use lalsed wooden floors that span between continuous footings, or use all
concrete slabs with 6x6- 10/10 welded wire fabric and provide a minimum
of 4 inches of clean sand beneath all concrete slabs. A moisture barrier
should be provided In the sand layer 2 inches below slcbs under living areas.
5. Separate garage slabs from perimeter footings by a 1/2 inch thickness of con-
struction felt or equivalent, to allow independent n.overrent of garage slabs
relative to perlmetei footings. Assure complete separation by extending the
felt over the full depth of the front thickened edge of the garage slab. Also,
cut off the garage door stops at least 1/2 inch above the slab.
6. Provide positive drainage away from all perimeter footings to a horizontal
distance of at least 6 feet outside the house walls.
Type D Lots
i" iose lots listed as Type B lots should follow all the above-listed recommendations with the two
£| 'allowing exceptions:
1 . The continuous footings may be placed at a minimum depth of_10 inches below
the lowest adjacent exterior final ground surface rather than the two feet
recommended for Type A lots.
2. Single ^4 bars placed as directed (above) near tops and bottoms of all interior
and exterior footings may be substituted for the $5 bars recommended for
Type A lots.
^commendations 3 to 6, inclusive, as listed for Type A lots, ore also applicable to the Type
-Ho*.
-5- October 12, 1971
-cncho La Costa
,"*i!, nonexpanslve soil conditions were observed in the upper three feet on the Type C lots
-•<d therefore specially designed footings and slabs will not be required on these lots.
