any existing unsuitable fill or natural soils and founded In either Finn natural soils or in
approved compacted filled ground described as having an allowable bearing value of 2000
pounds per square foot in our previous report on Project No. 69-10-1D, dated February 24,
1970. The depths of the excavations varied to a maximum of 13 feet below the existing

Building Mr. Fries:
. S
Depameflt Dear
This is to report the results of tests to determine the moisture contents of the soils in the
upper three feet below finished grade in the proposed building area at the subject.site in
Carlsbad, California. .
The soil samples were obtained on July 12, 1982 and the results of the, moisture. determinations
are presented as filows:
Approximate Location
of Samples
Southwesterly portion of proposed building area
Southeasterly portion of proposed building area
Northeasterly portion of proposed building area
Depth Below Moisture
Existing Grade Content
in Feet (% dry wt)
1.0 8.0
2.0 10.4
3.0 6.8
1.0 9.7
2.0 13.3
3.0 9.2
1.0 8.8
2.0 8.9
3.0 11.8
It is concluded from the field observations of the various soil types and the final results of the
moisture determinations that the soils in the upper three feet below finished grade at the locations
sampled have been sufficiently moistened to minimize the potential expansion of the soils, cis
recommended in our report under Project No. 69-10-ID dated February 24, 1970.
Mr. Harry Fries -2- July 13, 1982
Project No. 82-6-if
It is recommended that positive drainage, 6 inches of vertical fall in 6 feet horizontally, should
be provided around the perimeter of the house in landscaped areas. Drainage systems should also
be provided to collect oil runoff from roofs and conduct the water in watertight pipes either into
the streets or storm drains. All surface drainage should be prevented from ponding adjacent to
or running over the tops of slopes. Inlet boxes and .watertight pipes should be installed when
necessary to comply with the above requirements.
Respectfully submitted,
