Locations of the existing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms will be field verified by the City Building Inspector. Items 3 & 4 are for reference and information. 3. In existing buildings, when alterations, repairs or additions requiring a permit occur, the dwelling unit shall be provided with smoke alarms located as required for new dwellings; the smoke alarms shall be interconnected and hard wired. Section R303.3.1. Recheck the new powder room and the master bathroom. The master bathroom should have exhaust fan inside the water closet compartment and outside the water closet compartment. Specify on the plans whether the existing house was built before or after 1994. For additions or improvements to a residence built before 1994, note on the plans that existing "noncompliant" fixtures (toilets that use more than 1.6 gallons of water per flush, urinals that use more than one gallon of water per flush, showerheads that have a flow capacity of more than 2.5 gallons of water per minute, and interior faucets that emit more than 2.2 gallons of water per minute) shall be replaced.
