Please make all corrections on the original tracings, as requested in the correction
list. Submit three sets of plans for commercial/industrial projects (two sets of plans
for residential projects). For expeditious processing, corrected sets can be
submitted in one of two ways:
1. Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA 92008, (760)
602-2700. The City will route the plans to EsGil Corporation and the Carlsbad
Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
2. Bring one corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to EsGil Corporation,
9320 Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858) 560-1468.
Deliver all remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department for routing to their Planning, Engineering and Fire
Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil Corporation only will not be
reviewed by the City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by
EsGil Corporation is complete.

23. Please indicate on the lighting plans the location of the automatic time switch
and the bypass switch indicated in the LTG-1C documents. Please indicate the
type of automatic control and show it on the plans. The resubmitted were
missing sheet 7.0.
25. Please revise the plans to show where food or drink is served at a counter
exceeding 34" in height for the consumption by customers seated or standing at
the counter, a portion of the main counter which is 60" in length minimum shall
be provided in compliance with Section 1122B (28" to 34" in height). The front
dining counter is required to be accessible, please correct the plans. The
length of the accessible counter were food or drink is served shall be 60"
in length and not 48", please correct the plans.
27. Show a level area, or landing, per Section 1133B.2.4.2:
a) >60" in the direction of door swing for the men's restroom. The men's
restroom is still not accessible. Please correct the plans. The door

FOREWORD (PLEASE READ):
This plan review is limited to the technical requirements contained in the International Building
Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, Uniform Mechanical Code, National Electrical Code and state
laws regulating energy conservation, noise attenuation and access for the disabled. This plan
review is based on regulations enforced by the Building Department. You may have other
corrections based on laws and ordinances enforced by the Planning Department, Engineering
Department, Fire Department or other departments. Clearance from those departments may be
required prior to the issuance of a building permit.
Code sections cited are based on the 2010 CBC, which adopts the 2009 IBC.
The following items listed need clarification, modification or change. All items must be satisfied
before the plans will be in conformance with the cited codes and regulations. Per Sec. 105.4 of
the 2009 International Building Code, the approval of the plans does not permit the violation of
any state, county or city law.
To speed up the recheck process, please note on this list (or a copy) where each
correction item has been addressed, i.e.. plan sheet number, specification section, etc.
Be sure to enclose the marked up list when you submit the revised plans.

Please make all corrections on the original tracings, as requested in the correction
list. Submit three sets of plans for commercial/industrial projects (two sets of plans
for residential projects). For expeditious processing, corrected sets can be
submitted in one of two ways:
1. Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA 92008, (760)
602-2700. The City will route the plans to EsGil Corporation and the Carlsbad
Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
2. Bring one corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to EsGil Corporation,
9320 Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858) 560-1468.
Deliver all remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department for routing to their Planning, Engineering and Fire
Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil Corporation only will not be
reviewed by the City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by
EsGil Corporation is complete.
1. Each sheet of the plans must be signed by the person responsible for their
preparation, even though there are no structural changes. Business and
Professions Code.
2. Provide evidence of Health Department approval (for restaurants), where
regulated by ihe local Health Department.
3. Provide a section view of all new interior partitions. Show:
a) Type, size and spacing of studs. Indicate gauge for metal studs. Specify
manufacturer and approval number or indicate "to be ICBO approved".
b) Method of attaching top and bottom plates to structure. (NOTE: Top of
partition must be secured to roof or floor framing, unless suspended
ceiling has been designed for partition lateral load).
c) Show height of partition and suspended ceiling, and height from floor to
roof framing or floor framing.
4. Provide a section view of the new soffits. Show:
a) Type, size and spacing of studs. Indicate gauge for metal studs. Specify
manufacturer and approval number or indicate "to be ICBO approved".
b) Method of attaching top to the structure and lateral bracing.
c) Show height of the soffit from floor, soffit to roof framing or floor framing.
5. Glazing in the following locations should be of safety glazing material in
accordance with Section 2406.3
d) Fixed or operable panels adjacent to a door where the nearest exposed
edge of the glazing is within a 24-inch arc of either vertical edge of the door
in a closed position. And where the bottom exposed edge of the glazing is
less than 60 inches above the walking surface.

6. Please provide plans and calculations signed by the California State licensed
engineer or architect for the structural design of the new storage mezzanine
(designed for 125PSF light storage). Include all calculations and finding on the
plans. Please include the California license number, seal, date of license
expiration and date plans are signed. Business and Professions Code,
7. Please provide access to the new storage mezzanine. A pull down ladder is not
permitted. Show complying stairs.
8. Guards (Section 1013):
a) Shall be installed at all unenclosed floor openings which are located more
than 30" above the floor or grade below.
b) Shall be installed at open and glazed sides of stairways, landings and
ramps located more than 30" above the floor or grade below.
c) Shall be installed at balconies or porches more than 30" above grade or
floor below.
d) Shall have a height of 42". This includes th& open side of a stair.
e) Shall be detailed showing adequacy of connections to resist the horizontal
force prescribed in Section 1607.7.
f) Openings between railings shall be less than 4". The triangular openings
formed by the riser, tread and bottom element of a guardrail at a stair
shall be less than 6". Note: In California, the IBC provision for a 4.375"
sphere (above 36") was removed from the code for all occupancies
9. Please clarify the plans and show the location of the new kitchen equipment
numbers 13~18 on the plans. Section 107.2.
10. Please revise the plumbing plans to show the required clean-outs per section
707 of the UPC at all upper branch terminals.
11. Hot water supplied to a public use lavatory is limited to a maximum temperature
potential of 120 degrees by a device that conforms to ASSE 1070 or CSA
B125.3; please provide the manufacturer's listing showing compliance. Detail
how this temperature limitation is achieved. The water heater thermostat may not
be used for compliance with this Code section. UPC 413.1 & UPC 414.
12. Please provide a structural design for the support of the new water heater shown
as550#.
13. Please provide the listing and installation recommendations for the ovens. Show
the required combustion air, make-up air and venting requirement and total gas
demand.

14. Please correct the gas line plans, a single deck oven requires 120 KBTU's and
the plans show a triple stack of ovens thus the gas demand will be 360 KBTU's
and not 120 KBTU's. Revise the gas line to show the appropriate gas demand
and the correct sizing.
15. Please provide a complete gas line plan show all piping and demands from the
meter to the furthest most outlets.
16. Detail the required listed reduced pressure principle backflow preventer as
protection of water connection to carbonator. UPC, Section 603.4.13
17. All 125-volt, single phase 15 and 20 ampere receptacles installed in kitchens
shall have GFCI protection for personnel. Please provide. NEC 210-8 (B).
18. Show on the plan that ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection complies with
NEC Art. 210-8 All 125-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20- ampere receptacles
installed in bathrooms shall be protected.
19. Please provide a roof plan showing the new roof mounted equipment and a
service receptacle located less than 25' from the new equipment and GFCI
protected.
20. Please review the requirements, revise the plans appropriately and imprint on
the plans the City of Carlsbad Policies and Procedures for Roof Mounted
Equipment to the plans.
21. Please clarify the single line diagram. Is this system a 120/208v 30 or a
120/240v 30 Delta system? Please correct the load calculations to be consistent
with the correct voltage.
22. Please have the principle designer check the appropriate box(s) and complete
the Statement of Compliance System Acceptance section of the LTG-1-C part 4
of 4 documents.
23. Please indicate on the lighting plans the location of the automatic time switch
and the bypass switch indicated in the LTG-1C documents.
24. Please provide a roof plan clearly dimensioning all of the exhaust discharge
locations and make-up air and HVAG intake locations.
25. Please revise the plans to show where food or drink is served at a counter
exceeding 34" in height for the consumption by customers seated or standing at
the counter, a portion of the main counter which is 60" in length minimum shall
be provided in compliance with Section 1122B (28" to 34" in height).
26. Show that the minimum strike edge distances are provided at the level area on the
side to which a door (or a gate) swings, per Section 1133B.2.4.3:

a) >18" at interior conditions for the door to the kitchen.
b) >12" on the push side, if the door has both a latch and a closer for the rear
door. Figure 11B-26A.
27. Show a level area, or landing, per Section 1133B.2.4.2:
a) >60" in the direction of door swing for the men's restroom.
