On November 11th we discussed on the telephone the
aesthetic requirements for the installation of a paint booth
vent.
The question arose that since the Uniform Fire Code requires
the vent to extend six feet above the roofline, and since our
facility is visible from Palomar Airport Road, perhaps the
vent would have to be covered with a screen-type enclosure.
After further investigation, however, you informed me that
the only aesthetic requirement would be to paint the vent a
color similar to the roof.
Please confirm that this is an accurate description of our
conversation by sending me a note which I can keep on file.

Dear Mr. Stephenson:
This letter is in response to your letter dated November 19, 1991 regarding to screening
of a proposed roof top vent for a paint spray booth.
The vent will not need to be screened by a separate structure, but should be painted
similar to the color of the roof of the building. The nature of the vent, being tall and thin,
would be difficult to screen with a free standing structure.

RE: Permit No. 91-1658 (Smith & Nephew Donjoy Application
For Spray Booth Construction)
The following is submitted in response to your questions
regarding:
1. Drawing which shows cleanout doors in exhaust duct.
2. Procedure used to install flashing around duct.
The drawing showing the cleanout doors was in error. The
duct installed at Donjoy has no bends, is only 18 inches in
diameter, and has sufficient and easy access from both the
top and the bottom for inspection and cleaning.
These customary steps were followed to install the spray
booth duct flashing:
1. A hole was cut through the roof.
2. Original roofing material around the hole(under the
flashing) was not disturbed.
3. Additional roofing material was applied around the
hole under the flashing and sealed with Henry's 204.
4. Flashing was applied around the duct and screwed into
the roof.
5. Flashing was sealed with Henry's 204.
6. Counter-flashing was installed.
