The City will route the plans to EsGil Corporation and the Carlsbad Planning, Engineering
and Fire Departments.
Bring one corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to EsGil Corporation, 9320
Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, and (858) 560-1468. Deliver all
remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of Carlsbad Building
Department for routing to their Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil Corporation only will not be reviewed by
the City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by EsGil Corporation is
complete.
2. Please revise the Building Code Data Legend. Include the following code information:

Section 13.5.6.2.1 shall have the following;
A heavy duty T-bar system shall be used.
The width of the perimeter supporting closure angle shall be no less than 2". In each
orthogonal horizontal direction one end of the ceiling grid shall be attached to the
closure angle. The other end in each horizontal direction shall have a 3/4" clearance from
the wall and shall rest upon and be free to slide on a closure angle.

8. The City requires the following notes on the plans:
WIRING METHODS: AC Cable is not allowed in A, B, E, H, and I occupancies. NM cable is
restricted (without City approval) to one and two family dwellings. Note on plans that an
equipment ground conductor is to be installed in all flexible conduits.
The use of flexible metal conduit as a grounding means must comply with City Policy 84-36.
No wiring is permitted on the roof of a building and wiring on the exterior of a building requires
approval by the Building Official. City Policy.
9. Per CEC Section 517.13 please note on the plans 'All branch circuits serving patient care
areas shall be provided with a grounding path for fault current by installation in a metal
raceway or a cable having metallic armor or a sheath assembly. The metal raceway or cable
shall qualify as an equipment grounding return path in accordance with NEC Section 250.118.
In addition the grounding terminals and all non-current carrying surfaces of fixed equipment
subject to physical contact and likely to become energized over 100 volts shall be grounded by
an insulated copper conductor sized per NEC Table 250.122.NEC Section 517.13(B).
10. Provide complete plumbing plans, including:
Provide complete water line sizing calculations, including the water pressure, pressure
losses, water demands, and developed pipe lengths. UPC Section 610.0.
Show water heater size, type and location on plans. UPC Section 501.0.
Show that water heater is adequately braced to resist seismic forces. Provide two straps
(one strap at top 1/3 of the tank and one strap at bottom 1/3 of the tank). UPC Section
510.5.
Show P & T valve on water heater and detail drain line route from P & T valve to the
exterior. UPC Section 608.4.
11. Please complete the lighting controls sheets, Sheet LTG-1-C;
Complete the mandatory automatic controls form on the plans. Sheet LTG-1-C. Part 2
of 4. What is being used for the building shut-off?
Complete the certificate of compliance state the equipment to be tested and the persons

12. When alterations, structural repairs or modifications or additions are made to an existing
building, that building, or portion of the building affected, is required to comply with all of the
requirements for new buildings, per CBC Section 1134B.2. These requirements apply as follows:
The area of specific alteration, repair or addition must comply as "new" construction. This
includes the sinks in the exam rooms.
A primary entrance to the building and the primary path of travel to the altered area,
must be shown to comply with all accessibility features. Unable to locate the door

Dear Building Department,
Please accept this letter of explanation regarding plans I am submitting for tenant improvements.
I have leased space at 2814 Roosevelt St. to relocate my Optometry business. The plans for the
improvements have been drawn up by my Architect, Jack Carter, who has informed me of specific
ADA guidelines that apply to my space.
During the development of the plans, it was brought to my attention that sinks in my exam
rooms may be in question with regard to ADA standards. This is to inform you that access to
these sinks is limited to doctor use only. They will be used for purposes of scrubbing before
patient examination. Other sinks for public and employee use that comply with ADA
requirements are available in the restroom, contact lens room, laboratory, and
conference/break-room of my office. Since the use of sinks in the exam rooms will be exclusive
to me, I would like your permission for these sinks to be exempt from the ADA rules, so they may
enclosed in finished cabinetry.
