BENTON ENGINEERING. INC. Projgtd NO. 70-1 &28D - kmcho La Costa 5 3- October 12; 1971 The final resulk of tesk and observations indicate that the compacted filled ground has been placed at 90 percent of the maximum dry density or greater. It has been determined that the fill materials, compacted to 90 porcent of the maximum dry density, have a safe Searing value of 1930 pounds per square foot for one foot wide continuous footings founded at a minimum depth of one foot beiorv flnish grade and placed flve feet or more inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. If footings!am placed closer to the expod slopes than 5 feet inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes, these should be deepened one foot below a 1 1/2 hortzontai to 1 vertical line projected outward and downward from a point 5 feet horizontally inrlde the top of compacted filled ground slopes. Tests indicate that the compacted filled ground is adequate to satisfactorily support the proposed wood frame dwellings without detrimental settlements. Expanslve clay, silty cfay, and sandy clay soils were placed in the upper three feet in cattain compacted fill areas and also exist in hie upper three feat below finished grade in certain cut areas. The final classifications of the soil conditions existing on each lot are presented as fot lows: Type A - Critically Expansive Soils 52 and 53 58 to 64, inclusive 66, 67, and 60 70 to 82, inclusive 87 to 92, inclusive 117 to 131, inclusive 105, 106, 107 23 Lots 134 to 149, inclusive 152, 153, 154 158 to 161 , Inclusive 167 to 176, inclusive 179 to 182, inclusive ,184, 166 to 189, inclusive 194 to 230, lnclusive 234, 237 239 to 243, inclusive 246 and 247 Type B - Marsinally Expansive Soils - Lots Lots /q 17, 51, ~‘‘54~55, 56, 57 65, 69:‘83, &, 85, 86 93, 104, 108, 109, 1’10 177 and 178 112 to 11 5, inclusive 132, 133,. 150, 151 155, 156, 157, 162 183, 192, 193, 238, 244and248 Type C - Nonexpansive Soils -_ Lots Lots 33 163 to 166, inclusive 94 to 98, inclusive 231, 232, 233, 235, 236, 245 IO0 to 103,Tnclusive 249 to 253, Inclusive 111, 116 BENTON ENGINEERING, INC. 4 October 12, 1971 It 15 recommended that tka bliowlng spoclal design and precautrons be taken for the houses to be constructed on the abovs [oh: Type A Lob 9 1. Avold the use of isolated interior pfen. Use contlnuous footings throughout, and place these at a minimum depth of two feet below khe lowest adjacent exterior final ground surface . I L 5 t, i r 2. binforce and interconnect continuously with steel bars all iiiterior and exterior footings with one #5 bar at 3 inches above the bottom of the footings and one 85 bar placed 1 1/2 inches below the top of the stems of the footings. xercise every effort to assure that the soil under tho foundations and slabs has a uniform moisturn content, 1 percent to 3 percent greater than optlmum through- out the top 3 feet below finished gmde at the time of placing foundations and Use raised wooden floors that span between contlnuous footings, or use all concrete slabs with 6 x 6 - 10/10 welded wire fabric and provide a minimum j. i f I 3 I I of 4 inches of clean sand beneath all concrete stubs. A m;o?sture banier should be provided in the sand layer 2 inches below slabs under living areas. 50 Separate garuge slabs from perimeter footings by a 1/2 inch thickness of con- struction felt or equivalent, ta allow independent movement of garage slabs relative to perimeter footings. Assure complete separation by extending the felt over the full depth of the front thickened c&e of the garage slab. Also, cut off the garage door stops at iwst 1/2 inch above the slab. 6. Provide positive drainage away from all perimeter footings to a horizontal distance'of at least 6 feet outside the house walls. Type B Lots - Those Iok listed as Trpe B lots should follow all the above-listed recommendations with the two following oxcep tions: 1. The continuous footings may be placed at a minImum depth of 18 inches below the lowsst adjacent exbrior final ground surface rather than the two feet recommended For Type A lots, --- 2. Single #4 bars placed as dImcted (above) near tops and bottoms of all interior and exterior footings may be substituted for the #5 ban recommended for Type A lok. Recommendations 3 to 6, inclusive, as listed for Type A lots, are also applkable to the Type B lots. BENTON ENGINEERING. INC.
