It is our understanding that the site is underlain by mo~erately expansive soils and that hard rock may exist within 18 iRGhes from finnished grade. We understand that foundation recommendations by Bento·n _Engineering call for 18 inch deep footings reinforced with one No. 4 bar top and bottom. We also understand that in some areas hard rock may exist within 18 inches of finish grade. If this rock does exist, footing excavation would not be possible using normal excavation methods. In co.nsideration of the above, it is our recommendation that the footings shoul'd extend to 18 inches below finish grade except where rock is . ' encountered with this depth.
