As authorized, this supplemental report presents the regional
seismicity and bedrock formation for the subject sites.
Bedrock Formation
Bedrock at the subject site is mapped generally at the surface
(Weber, 1982) and was encountered in several of the exploratory
drill h;les of this project at shallow depths (see drill logs).
These rocks are assigned to the Del Mar Formation of Tertiary Age.
The formation is described as of marine origin and comprised in
the general area of very gently dipping sandstone, clayey sand-
stone, clayey siltstone, and claystone.

Regional Seismicity
The item site is located in a coastal part of the Peninsular
Ranges Province of southwestern California. The province is
generally made up of a basement complex of bathylithic and
prebathylithic rocks, mantled toward the coast by Tertiary,
marine formations. The province is generally cut into broad,
' NW-SE trending belts by major, active fault zones. In the
region of this report, the subject site is located relatively
close to the southwestern border of the belt, north of San
Diego. Offshore extensions of the Newport-Inglewood Fault
Zone form the southwest border of the belt, and southward
extensions of the Whittier-Elsinore Fault Zone form the
n9rtheast border of the belt. The Newport-Inglewood extensions
are located about 4 miles offshore and, roughly, 8 miles west
of the site. The Whittier-Elsinore extensions are located
approximately 21 miles to the northeast, east of Pala. Both
fault systems are assigned a rating of M6.5 in recent work
for ordinary planning and design purposes. Because of its
closeness, the Newport-Inglewood Zone extensions are designated
as the design group for this report. An M6.5 earthquake on a
nearby fault segment of this sytem could produce maximum rock
accelerations at the site of 0.30g to 0.35g, and maximum,
repeatable rock accelerations of around 0.20g.
