RESOLUTION NO. 274
WHEREAS, There is an inadequate supply of water to meet the domestic
and agricultural needs of San Diego County, and
WHEREAS, This shortage will continue and become more acute if the
city and county of San Diego continues to grow,and
WHEREAS, San Diego's future . . . its very existence . . . and expansion
industrially and agriculturally, depends on the IMPORTATION OF WATER
from sources outside the county, and
WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Water District has committed itself to
build and finance 43.5 miles of the proposed second aqueduct bringing it to a
point 5.9 miles south of the San Diego-Riverside County line, at a cost of
over 20 million dollars, and
WHEREAS, The most feasible way to bring Colorado River water and
water from other plentiful northern sources to San Diego County is through an
aqueduct from the M W D Reservoir in Riverside County, THEREFORE
IT RESOLVED,
BE
That we, The City Council of the City of Carlsbad go on record in favor
of a yes vote on the bond issue which will appear on the ballot at a special
election July 9 . . . and we further urge all citizens of this area to go to the -
polls and vote yes on this vital issue which means life or death . . . growth or
stagnation ... to our County.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City
Council held on the 2nd day of July, 1957 by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Castorena, Helton, Ledgerwood and Robinson.
NOES: None
ABSENT: Baird
