RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, RELATIVE TO THE FREE SPEECH CONTROVERSY AND THE FREEDOM OF OBSCENITY MOVEMENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA CAMPUS IN BERKELEY e
WHEREAS, the purpose of the tax-supported University of
California is to furnish higher education for the young people of
the State, and whereas there are many qualified, moral and law-abid-
ing students who are denied admission to this Institution because of
lack of facilities; and
WHEREAS, the unlawful action of those students who organ-
ized and participated in the Free Speech Movement and the unlawful
and immoral actions of those who participated in the more recent

whose published aims are the lowering of the moral fiber of the
United States by deliberately flouting 1 aw , order and common decency,

showing a lack of a sense of responsibility which is the obligation
of every citizen in a Democracy, and creating confusion, chaos and I

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad, California, that the Board of Regents be request-

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this City Council supports and
endorses the TRI-CITY TOWN MEETING to be held in Oceanside, Californ
on May 8, 1965 as a revival of an old American tradition to permit
the law-abiding and moral citizens of the TRI-CITY area to bring
these subjects to the elected and appointed officials who, so far,
have failed to act in the interests of our youth, the reputation of
our University system and the moral standards of the UNITED STATES.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the Cit
of Carlsbad, California, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Councilmen Dunne, Neiswender, Jardine and Hughes.
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAINED: Councilman Atkinson
