LUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD MEMORIALIZING THE CALIFORNIA STATE DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS TO PROVIDE SAFE
TIONS ON INTERSTATE 5 IN CARLSBAD. AND ADEQUATE INTERSECTION AND GRADE SEPARA-
WHEREAS, Interstate Highway No. 5 will soon be widened to

611 provide eight traffic lanes through the heart of the City of
serious traffic flow problem in our city; and
WHEREAS, several east-west traffic arteries will be partially
blocked or otherwise impaired.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the California State
Division of Highways be hereby petitioned to widen the Elm Avenue
underpass to provide four traffic lanes and safe pedestrian walks
on either side.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Cannon Road interchange be
fully improved at the time of freeway widening, with such improve-
ment to consist of at least four traffic lanes and safe pedestrian
walks through the limits of the State right of way and all four
vehicle ramps, to provide safe and convenient ingress and egress .
to the freeway from this location in our city.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that additional study be undertaken
of the Chestnut Street intersection to determine the feasibility
of a freeway crossing at this location.

WHEREAS, such widening will further aggravate an already
Council that the construction of Interstate 5 has seriously dis-
rupted our city and impaired our ability to provide adequate east-
west traffic arteries in a rapidly growing community. We believe
the above enumerated crossings constitute minimum of facilities
designed to accomodate present traffic volumes and future growth.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City
of Carlsbad at a regularly adjourned meeting held May 17, 1968,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is the consensus of this City
