RESOLUTION NO. 1907
A. RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD OPPOSING PROPOSED REDISTRICTING
OF THE 80th ASSEMBLY DISTRICT.
The City Council of the City of Carlsbad does hereby resolve as
follows:
WHEREAS, it has been proposed to redistrict the 80th Assembly
District, the proposal being known as the llRepublican Plan"; and
WHEREAS, the proposed district would include Oceanside, Carlsbad
and a large irregular shaped area in Riverside County touching San
Bernardino County; and
WHEREAS, such proposal does totally disregard natural Seagraphic2
boundaries ; and
WHEREA.S, there is no natural community of interest between
Oceanside, Carlsbad and the Cities of Elsinore, Corona and Riverside; and
WHEREAS, such proposed district would break up and divide the
North County in an illogical manner by, among other things, separating the
community of Vista from Oceanside and Carlsbadljy pft;cing in a differ
district; and
WHEREAS, any proposed redistricting of the 80th District should,
as a more acceptable alternative, consider grouping the communities in-
cluded in the area between Dana Point south to Del Mar, and east to
Escondido;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the so-called "Republicai
Plan" for redistricting the 80th Assembly District is strongly opposed for
the foregoing reasons by the City of Carlsbad.
