WHEREAS, establishment of commuter service by AMTRAK along
the heavi ly travel 1 ed corridor , if reasonably pri ced, could pro-
RESOLUTION NO. 3354
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, URGING AMTRAK AND UMTA TO IMMEDIATELY EXPLORE EXPANDED TRAIN SERVICE IN THE COASTAL CORRIDOR.
WHEREAS, the current energy crisis and the continuing need
for cleaner air are today providing a strong impetus for the
development of mass rapid transit within San Diego County; and
portion of the County's population; and
WHEREAS, such service would not only serve as a test bed
for future systems but could now provide substantial savings in
fuel use as well as a reduction in air pollution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad, California that AMTRAK and the Urban Mass Trans-
portation Administration are urged to immediately explore the
possibility of expanding train service to provide this modified
mass transit commuter type service.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City
of Carlsbad, California, this
following vote, to wit:
5th day of February, 1974, by the
AYES : Councilmen Dunne, VcComas, Lewis, Chase and Frazee.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
