RESOLUTION NO. - 7549
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAR SBAD, CALIFORNIA, CHANGING THE CLASSIFICATION DESCRIP-
-- TION OF THE ASSISTANT LIBRARY --- DIRECTOR.
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council
Oncurs that the classification of Assistant Library Director be
hanged.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council for the
ity of Carlsbad, California, as follows:

That the above recitations are true and correct.
That the City Council authorizes and directs the City
[anager to change the classification of Assistant Library Director
is described in Attachment A, attached hereto and made a part

PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the

ASSISTANT LIBRARY DIRECTOR
DEFINITION
Under the administrative direction of the Library Director, to plan,
coordinate and supervise the public services programs of the City Library; to perform professional library work and to do related work
as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Supervise and assist professional, paraprofessional and clerical
personnel in all phases of the library's public services.
Assist in the development and implementation of the library's goals
and objectives.
Participate in the selection of library materials, and perform a
variety of other professional work requiring a knowledge of books and
library resources.
Respond to citizen complaints and requests for information about the
library's services.
Assist in the preparation of the library's budget.
Select, supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff.
Formulate appropriate rules, procedures, and policies for the library's
public services programs and see that they are carried out.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of professional library work.
Books, sources, bibliographies, reference material, and related
services.
Principles and practices of organization, administration, budget-
ing, and personnel management.
Library automation as applied to various public services.
Ability to:
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Perform technical library tasks.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with
those contacted in the course of work.

Assistant Library Director (Cont'd)
Experience and Education
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that
could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities
would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge
and abilities would be:
Experience
Five years of professional library work experience,
preferably including at least two years prior library supervisory experience.
Education
Possession of a Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited library
school.
