RESOLUTION NO. 8035 e
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE
CLASSIFICATION PLAN OF THE CITY TO INCLUDE
THE CLASSIFICATION OF SENIOR CITIZEN
COORDINATOR.
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council
concurs, that the classification of Senior Citizen Coordinator
should be included in the city's Classification and Salary Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City
Manager to add the classification of Senior Citizen Coordinator
as described in Attachment A, attached hereto and made a part
thereof.
3. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City
Manager to add the title of Senior Citizen Coordinator to the
appropriate city salary plan as shown on Attachment B, attached
hereto and made a part thereof.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the
Carlsbad City Council held on the 21st day of my , 1985,
by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Bknbers Casler, Lewis, Kulchin, Chick and Pettine

SENIOR CITIZEN COORDINATOR
DEFINITION
Under direction, to perform professional technicial and administra- tive work involved in the city's senior citizen program; and to
do related work as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Prepare and administer senior citizen program budget.
Supervise and participate in a variety of senior citizen program
activities.
Make recommendations to the Director of Parks and Recreation regarding
the organization, scheduling and staffing of various senior citizen
program activities.
Coordinate program activities with other city departments and
divisions, and with outside agencies.
Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff.
Maintain activity and progress reports.
Prepare periodic reports and news releases.
Requisition supplies.
Provide staff assistance and support to the Carlsbad Senior Citizen
Association.
Attend meetings and provide staff support to the Commission/Board including the preparation and presentation of technical staff reports.
Respond to citizen complaints and requests for information.
Assist in the development and submital of applications and grants
to governmental agencies and private foundations.
QUALIFI CAT1 ONS
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of community organization, and administration.
Concepts of intergroup relations.
Current literature, and developments in gerontology.
First aid methods and safety precautions related to recrea- tional settings.
Senior Citizen Coordinator (cont.)
Principles of supervision, training, and evaluation.
Abilitv to:
Analyze senior concerns and present approaches to their
resolution.
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
with those contacted in the course of work.
Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff.
Experience and Education
Any combination equivalent to the experience and education
that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities
is qualifying. abilities would be: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and

Two years of progressively responsible experience
which includes direct contact with the public,
preferably senior citizens.
Education
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a human service related field.
