RESOLUTION NO. 8758
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE CITY OF CORONADO IN URGING THE CALIFORNIA TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION TO CONTINUE THE PRESENT
BAY BRIDGE.
TOLL STRUCTURE FOR VEHICLES CROSSING THE SAN DIEGO-CORONADO
WHEREAS, the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge carries Interstate
5 commuter traffic to Coronado, dispensing it on to unimproved
:ity streets; and
WHEREAS, the traffic volume greatly exceeded traffic forecasts
:nabling the bridge bonds to be paid off 17 years early; and
WHEREAS, the extremely heavy East-West commuter'traffic has
lissected the City of Coronado creating unforeseen health and
safety problems for that City; and
WHEREAS, Carlsbad supports the fundamental right of a small
Zity to retain its residential character;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
Zity of Carlsbad as follows:
1. of Coronado in urging the California Transportation Commission to recommend and support the retention of the present existing toll structure for the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge.
2. That funds in excess of the cost of maintaining the bridgc
be placed into an interest-bearing trust account to finance im- provements acceptable to the City of Coronado which may be built to alleviate bridge created traffic problems.
