NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1. That the above recitation are true and correct. 2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City Manager to revisc the classifications of Equipment Mechanic I and I1 as described in Attachment A attached hereto and made a part thereof. Attachment A Resolution No, 9179 D - FINIT EQUIPMENT MECHANIC I EQUIPMENT MECHANIC I1 ON - Under general supervision, to make minor and major mechanical repairs to automotive and other power-driven equipment; and to do related work as assigned DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Eauioment Mechanic I This is the entry level class of the equipment mechanic series. Positions in this class will supplement acquired technical knowledge by gaining experience in the repair and maintenance of gas and diesel-powered equipment. training concept, positions which become vacant in the class of Equipment Mechanic I1 may be filled at the Equipment Mechanic I level. Individuals employed in the Equipment Mechanic I class may reasonably expect to be reassigned to the Equipment Mechanic I1 level following successful job performance and measured skill improvements through on-the-job training. Fabricate and modify parts and equipment. Perform minor welding and cutting operations. Maintain work, time and material records. EQUIPMENT ECHANIC I e e EQUIPMENT ECHANIC 11, Continued Assist equipment mechanics in the performance of major mechanical repairs as required. Clean and wash motorized equipment. Sweep and vacuum car interiors. Wash windows, tighten body bolts, sweep, wash and otherwise keep shop and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. QUALIFICATIONS Equipment Mechanic I Knowledge of Procedures used in the overhaul, repair and adjustment of gas and diesel-powered equipment. Types and use of special tools and electronic test equipment c"on to the automotive repair trade. Methods used in electric and gas welding. Safe work practices associated with a repair facility. Ability to Inspect and correctly diagnose malfunctions in gas and diesel-powered equipment. Estimate time and cost of repairs to within 10% of the actual costs. Use with skill the tools and test equipment associated with the automotive and heavy equipment trade. Perform minor and major mechanical repairs and adjustments within the time frames as established by flat rate manuals. Maintain a variety of shop time keeping and repair records. ExDerience and Education Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: ExDerience One year experience performing automotive maintenance and repair duties comparable to those of the Equipment Service Worker class. EQUIPMENT ECHANIC I 0 < EQUIPMENT ECHANIC 11, Continued Education Specialized training in the maintenance and repair of gas and diesel-powered equipment. Equipment Mechanic I1 In addition to the qualifications for Equipment Mechanic I: Knowledge of Operating and repair characteristics of the entire range of City-owned light and heavy equipment. Ability to Perform journey level equipment mechanic work. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Assist in the training and supervision of less experienced personnel. Experience and Education Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: ExDerience Two years experience performing duties comparable to those of the Equipment Mechanic I class, including use of the shop and test equipment utilized in the maintenance of both diesel and gas powered equipment. Education Specialized training in the maintenance and repair of gas and diesel powered equipment. NECESSARY SPECIAL REOUIREMENT Possession of an appropriate California Driver's License.
